Can we afford him? I think we all agree, the guy is a home run.

I think we can afford him, Poison.  It's all about the powers that be making the necessary moves to afford him.  Not to mention, maybe some of the power boosters toss in some dollars for incentive sakes.

Donovan will not come here. He won two titles at florida. He will achieve legendary status there like dean smith at unc or coach k at duke if he stays. Why leave?

That said, if donovan did want to leave for some reason, he would more than pay for himself through all the extra juice and wins he would bring the program!

If he was to bolt florida, why not go to the nets with the russian billionaire, draft wall, buy a few stars this summer, and be the coaching icon when the nets move to BK?

If billy bolts florida, it won't be to st john's.

Guys come on. . he turned down 5mm a year from the NBA and then from Kentucky but he is going to come to SJU. Lets be serious.

Maybe, Donovan doesn't come here.  But, I have a hunch he just wasn't really up to coaching in the NBA at the time he turned it down.  And, mega-dollars isn't always a way to persuade some people.  The NBA is a different animal than college and vice-versa.

Of course, we'll have to come up with some funds to grab Donovan.  But, I just think he's a college guy, moreso than a pro guy.  I bet, if he tried his hand at the NBA....  He'll be back in college before you know it.  Again....  Just a hunch.

The best benefit we can offer any coach is New York City.
Nothing against Florida, Louisville and Virginia, but I'd rather be dead than live in any of those chitholes.

I know plenty of New Yorkers that feel the same way.

What's the best restaurant in Gainsville? The Olive Garden? TGI Fridays? Wendy's?

Selling a recruit on NY is harder than selling a coach. A recruit doesn't have the money to enjoy NY.
A coach does.

Thats where the coaches live and send they kids to school.
Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.

I think he might actually consider coming here but we would have to offer him a raise over what hes gets at Florida and that isnt going to happen. I think he would be great here and if we really wanted to win we would make the commitment but the present administration especially in these economic times wont do that. He would turn SJU around in no time but the price will not allow us to bring him here.

It's about proximity to Manhattan.

Yes, he'd probably live in LI, or a nice part of Queens, but no high major school in the nation offers the same proximity to Manhattan, except for maybe Seton Hall, and even then, you'd be spending a lot of time in NJ.

That is probably not attractive to any coach of Donovan's caliber. I don't him leaving UF to move to NJ.

no...he wasnt up to leaving his situation in general...hes got a shitload of money, job security for life, and is a god at florida...you people really need to stop being delusional...i doubt baldi even believes what he wrote...this is prob some joke to make him laugh about how stupid posters are on here...even if we matched his salary at Florida, which we cant, why in gods name would he come here to rebuild...seriously guys, time to get real...there are a few real candidates for this job, they are mostly all mid major coaches, and the ones that arent are not big names...deal with it...yea i want billy donovan too...i also want julie henderson to walk through my door right now and spread her legs on my desk, i wonder what has more of chance of happening

Money doesn't matter to everyone.  Let's say you are coming out of college
and you are offered 50,000 to work in New York or 70,000 to work in GAINESVILLE or
some other podunk ridiculous town.  What would you take?  I'd take the 50 and stay in NY.

The $ clearly doesn't mean everything to him becaue he turned down substantia raises.

I think he is more attainable than most believe, but think it will take more $ than the
school will spend.  This school does not understand the R.O.I. a great coach
could bring.

I know Baldi likes to clown around.  I long knew that, my friend.  Heck!  I responded to this thread due to the fact that I would like Donovan to come here.

I've been saying for a week or two that it's probably a longshot, but there is still a chance.  Of course, it's gonna take some money to lure Donovan.  But, it's not gonna take, as much as some of you may believe.

Why would Donovan not want to come here?  I could give two reasons....  He's a New Yorker and he could be the "King of New York," if he were to win here.  Many of these coaches have an ego and he could definitely feed his ego, if he were to win and win big here.

It might look the same but culture and entertainment seperates us from the rest.

phone call cant hurt, and i hope they do throw as much money at him as they can if hes interested...but i just dont see him leaving what he built at Florida to be the king of new york...i dont think at this point he feels the need to do more ego building...i think if he came, the decision would be more his wife and family pushing him, than him doing it himself...it just seems too unlikely...he got a job at a big school, power conference, big on athletics, great facilities, that pays him very well, and he had a great amount of success and built himself up to one of the best coaches in college ball...he's extremely comfortable there and the school and fans love him...idt theres any chance hes thinking about coming to rebuild a program like ours...but i dont know him, maybe he really misses new york, and maybe if we offer him a good amount of money he would consider it, but dont get your hopes up for any coach in the ballpark of donovan guys, bc most likely, youre gonna be sorely disappointed
