I've been hearing a lot of Patrick Ewing talk...

I'd just like to tell anyone who thinks he even has the slightest possibility to come here, that they are nuts.  I've heard a LOT of students ecstatic over the possibility of Ewing coming here, even though there is no possibility.  He has no experience as a head coach at any level, he hasn't been near the college game in 25 years, he probably has no interest in taking a college job and there is no way that Patrick Ewing will ever coach his rivaled St.  John's.  For the love of Lou Carnesecca, this Patrick Ewing talk must stop!  I have no clue where the rumor even came from that he would be a candidate, but it may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  I'm disappointed in my fellow students, as seen by this facebook group started today that has 400 fans already http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?v=wall&ref=search&gid=106260622728675 ...I'm not sure we've even had 400 students at a game this year.

I love Patrick Ewing. I also love John Starks. Neither of them will ever coach basketball at a high level.

It's just a ridiculous idea started by a student who I unfortunately am friends with. Don't put any stock into it at all. They've all invited all their friends to the group, thats why there's 400 people. I was invited and declined. It's such a stupid idea and I honestly have no idea where he came up with it. Just ignore it, obviously it's not gonna happen and obviously the real fans of the program know how ridiculous it is and not to even respond to it haha

I checked out the group and no one who's actually posting in there is any of the "usuals" at the games who actually truly support this team. Just a bunch of dumb students who probably couldn't name more than 3 players on the team. Again, I know the creator of the group and one of the admins in it, its definitely not worth getting worked up over, haha

I'm willing to bet that atleast half of those people don't even realize Ewing went to Georgetown and was a huge rival to St. John's during his playing days. They just know he played for the knicks and assume that makes him loyal to New York.

I'd also be willing to bet half those people don't even know that Georgetown and St. John's both play in the big east.

Ok so this is actually from the group discussion board, I'm not sure if the person who posted it is serious or not....I really hope not though   

1. New Yorkers love him, and we’re a tough crowd.

2. He has coaching experience! 3 years as Orlando Magic’s assistant coach.

3. You know he'll look good in one of Lou Carnesecca’s sweaters (just a few sizes bigger)

4. Recruits will want to play for him. His name alone can draw talented basketball players, and keep NYC kids here.

5. He’s got Big East experience ... remember he played for Georgetown and led them to the NCAA Championship Game 3 out of 4 years!

6. Ewing wants to be a head coach, especially in either New York or New Jersey. If the NBA doesn’t want him, it’s their loss.

7. Game attendance and school pride will increase. Fans will come to games just to see him coach. When was the last time you went to a St. John’s Men’s Basketball game, let alone a sold out one?

8. He can handle the pressure of rebuilding our program, as well as the criticism of the NY Press and St. John’s alumni. He played in high-pressure NBA, NCAA and Olympic Gold medal games.

i've heard a lot of dumb things from other students.

the students are dumb. most have no idea what is going on with the basketball program.

If he wants to be an assistant coach, I'd entertain that idea.

It would say a lot to have the best player in New York in the last 25 years on our staff. I believe he lives locally, and after working in Houston, he was probably reminded very quickly just how pitiful other ate cities are compared to NY.

I'm very confused about where this Ewing talk has come from. I'm just on this group to tell them how ridiculous it is. And yeah, I do have a group called Michael Jordan for STJ coach. I was joking but then someone actually made it for me. It should have at least as many members as the Patrick Ewing group.

Isn't his big accomplishment (as a coach) grooming Dwight Howard? That must have been a tough job. 

I just went to the group again and I'm seriously embarrassed that these are fellow students of mine. Someone posted on there (idk if that was you Soviet Red Storm) explaining why it's stupid and makes no sense, and 3 people responded with the most ridiculous justifications of why Ewing makes perfect sense as St. John's head coach. What a freakin joke.

Ya I saw that too.  This is seriously getting out of hand haha.  These people actually think they are making a difference in our coaching search.  Also, one of the guys who responded to the guy who made a good point of why they are idiots is a professor lol.  These people need to realiaze that we are the same student body who held up a sign that said "Patrick Ewing Can't Read This."  He is the single most hated figure in this school's basketball history and has no qualifications to coach a high-major division 1 basketball team.  I don't know how being recruited yourself and having your son be recruited qualifies you to coach St. John's.  In that case, how about Mase Sr. takes over next year
