Hewitt

Gotta think salary is a big negotiation, right?  I mean 1.375 mil in Atlants has gotta be what around 1.75 to 2 mil in NYC?  Hopefully Hewitt is making them guarantee chartered flights and a feew other things to help the team too

I hope that - whatever happens with the new coach - the school will spend money to hang with the big boys.  It's more than coach's salary; it's the salary of assistants, and the charter flights, etc.

I didn't mind Atlanta, it is very clean anyway. Subway's are carpeted. Does not compare to NYC though. Only places I would leave NYC for are possibly South Carolina-great golf and South Beach- only if I somehow found myself single or could go back in time.

I hear Atlanta's not that bad; some people actually do like it!  And there are pluses - if you like lots of suburbs, a fairly bustling city, a large number of middle-class black people... not saying those are factors for Hewitt, but Atlanta is an active town (including a gay scene and nightclubs, both of which are probably not factors in Hewitt's non-coaching life).

I've never been a big fan of Atlanta (I live like 2 1/2-to-3 hours from the ATL).  I know quite a few folk who live there (have a brother who resides there) and it's all how you make or what you're looking for.  I guess like any, other city.

Peter is pretty, spot on about the scene and dynamics of Atlanta.

All signs point to Paul Hewitt becoming the next St. John's basketball coach, the Daily News has learned.

Before anything can become official, a number of loose ends must be tied up. Hewitt is believed to be talking through the idea of relocating with his wife and three daughters. There is also the matter of reaching an agreement with Georgia Tech to end his long-term contract.

If the process doesn't hit a snag on any of those fronts, Hewitt should be announced as the Red Storm's new coach in anywhere from a matter of hours to days.

I wish Hewitt would negotiate for a few things to seal it:

1. Bring back the stipend
2. More financial support to facilities and the program
3. Chartered Flights

His recruiting class last year was INSANE.  This guy can recruit his arse off.  I fully expect 3-4 top 100 athletes to be here within 45 days of him taking over.

What about that is unrealistic?  The man had a ridiculous class last year amidst an 11-win season.  I don't believe Thomas' scholarship will be renewed.  I think Stith and Q are dead weight for a coach that can recruit like Hewitt. 

It has also been rumored that Roberts will want out of his LOI.  After that, there is the class of 2011 he can start to add to.  A new coach always creates a ton of excitement.  Hewitt is a big favorite in the AAU community.

Very machiavellian, marillac.  I don't see it happening. Paul hewitt is not going to come in and kick kids out, especially 3 of 4 players who he knows he will have on the squad in 2011-2012.

Is it possible sometime during next season, once recruits sign up, that he might tell Q and stith that if they stay they are unlikely to get time, yes I could see that.  But not before next year, not before he has committments.  His first act as coach is not gonna be to kick guys out.

You can read but don't believe. Once Norm got fired I knew what was coming. I heard this.....I heard that.....I work with someone who told me this....Sports outlets want to be the first to report something but not have the facts....it's the way of the world today.

A Hewitt question: we're assuming he gets to top talent in NYC-area.  But what if he can't?  What if the pull of the West Virginia mountains and Louisville, etc, are too much to overcome?

For the record, if he comes, I think he will get a number of the prominent ballers in the area; and I actually hope he doesn't get them all, and finds some lesser-known talents to fill out the rosters.  Every team needs willing role players.
