AL Skinner mentioned by Mike Vaccaro.  Take that for what it's worth.

is that as a serious candidate or is he throwing names around?

Vaccaro said that the NY Post learned from sources that he is now a prominent name in our search.

Skinner actually has a really good record and is a consistent winner.  Also is a NY guy.  He is pretty underrated.

Skinner can definitely coach.  If he's available bring him on down.

It appears Monasch is sticking to his guns and only going after guys who have had success in a high major conference.

Skinner is by far the best of the three rumored ACC exiles.  If we got Skinner, I would throw a party, his age is my only concern but he is one hell of a coach.

I honestly want to know what everyone's gripe is with Skinner?  How is he not exceedingly better than Seth Greenberg?

Skinner is a good coach and is from NY so it makes sense that he would be a condidate but he shouldnt be our next choice. If me missed out another guy or two and Skinner was interested then I would take a chance on him but he shouldnt be our third option. If we do get him one good thing is that maybe he could improve the program in short term and make SJU more desireable for future coaches.

For whatever it's worth, they just mentioned on the 2am Sportscenter that St John's will now turn their attention to Steve Donahue now that Cornell has been eliminated..

This is getting so embarrassing. If we don't land a big name coach the AD should be fired. He's made St. John's a laughing stock this past week. Why not Mark Jackson or Brad Stevens? I don't want these crappy mid-major coaches from the NY area who aren't going to be able to recruit anyone. Brad Stevens has his team in the Elite 8, and he's young why not go after him? And Mark Jackson would be a great recruiter. We would just need to hire a good assistant coach who can coach in game to help him out at first, and I think he could be a huge success.

If we hire Donahue, it would be the worst case scenario.  Look at his record at Cornell.

2000–2001    Cornell    7-20    3-11    T-7th
2001–2002    Cornell    5-22    2-12    7th
2002–2003    Cornell    9-18    4-10    T-5th
2003–2004    Cornell    11-16    6-8    T-5th
2004–2005    Cornell    13-14    8-6    2nd
2005–2006    Cornell    13-15    8-6    3rd
2006–2007    Cornell    16-12    9-5    3rd
2007–2008    Cornell    22-6            14-0    1st    NCAA 1st Round
2008–2009    Cornell    21-10    11-3    1st    NCAA 1st Round
2009–2010    Cornell    28-4            13-1    1st    NCAA Sweet Sixteen

Not exactly stellar until recently

Why is everyone down on Skinner?

He is a great coach, and always gets the most out of his, often unheralded, players.  If he could come to st johns, get some local talent to stay home - better than what he often has at bc - we'd be back.  He's got way more of a track record than greenberg...I mean he's older but not like he's ancient. 58 - same as pitino.

I don't know much about Donahue but just by looking at his record at Cornell, I think it's pretty impressive. Their win total improved almost every year and he took them from the dumpster to the tournament (three straight times) and he won in the tournament this year (another improvement for them). How are his recruiting skills?

Cornell was just completely outmatched athletically which isn't surprising considering Kentucky does that to everybody. Cornell played them pretty well until the first half was almost over and then towards the end of the game again. If it was any other team Cornell could have advanced again.
