The guy was fired because he had a losing season.
The "reason" Lavin has been out of coaching for a while now is likely his 4-month work "year" at ESPN. As an announcer, you never lose a game or a recruit, and have 8 months off to fool around while college coaches are on the road, sitting in stuffy gyms, putting their entire futures in the hands of flaky teenagers. Which is why Lav would be crazy to take this or any coaching job.
Plus the guy's wife is an actress, so his choices of cities to live in is limited, you know, like LA and NY?
Your program would win more with him than you have since the Carnesecca days. It would be inconsistent, but you'd go to the Tourney almost every year once Lavin got settled, and he'd bring in the top recruits.
We may have spoke about this already but why was this guy fired from UCLA after a very good run there and why has he not taken a job since then. On the surface this looks like a good hire because of how he did at UCLA but hes been out of coaching for a while now and its obviously for a reason.
