"Lavin Leads" Check out this possible coaching staff!!

Boston College coach Al Skinner has apparently dropped behind former UCLA coach Steve Lavin in the St. John's coaching derby to find a replacement for Norm Roberts who was fired two weeks ago.
According to sources familiar with the search, one of the topics that St. John's athletic director Chris Monasch focused on in his interview with Skinner on Friday was who would be on his staff. Monasch felt that any new coach needed a strong link to the powerful AAU presence in New York City and wanted Skinner to hire someone with strong connections in that area. Skinner said that he wanted to bring his current coaching staff which included Pat Duquette, Mo Cassera and Bonzie Colson, all who have more New England ties than New York connections.
On Saturday, Monasch interviewed Siena coach Fran McCaffery, but McCaffery was in the process of finalizing a deal which sent him to the University of Iowa as its new head coach.
Monasch then decided to go for a victory in the "press conference'' and made contact with Lavin, who last coached at UCLA eight years ago. Monasch had the same question for Lavin, who according to sources familiar with the situation, told Monasch he had no problems in making those hires. All of it seemed to work and yesterday sources familiar with the situation said that St. John's was preparing a deal which will include Lavin as well as former Dave Leitao, who had experience as not only an assistant on Jim Calhoun's staff at Connecticut as well as head coaching stops at Northeastern, DePaul and Virginia as well as Manhattan head coach Barry Rohrssen, who has strong recruiting ties in the city. An announcement could come as soon as today if details could be worked out.
In the other Big East opening at Seton Hall, with McCaffery out of the mix, Seton Hall officials focused on Iona coach Kevin Willard. According to sources familiar with the situation, an announcement could on that job could also be made on Monday
If this worked out, Skinner will be out of the mix and will return to BC and work on returning BC to a role as an NCAA tournament quality team.

We would instantly become a top tier Big East program with that staff.  My only worry is getting hung out to dry again.  We would literally have nowhere else to turn.

One question I have is...isn't Barry R still the head coach at Manhattan?  If so has a head coach ever left for an assistant position at a bigger school?  Just not sure he would leave if he is still the head coach at Manhattan.

Wouldn't it be great that the paper that actually gets the story correct is the Boston Globe.  Serves all these baffoon NY sports writers right.  Bunch of two-bit hacks.

i didnt want to post at all again till a deal was made with the new coach, whoever it was, bc im truly sick of this coaching search...and not even bc of the school really, just bc of the media and how disgusting they have been covering this...but lavin has been my #1 choice since that intial thread with the link to the lavin for st johns site...i had no idea he had even coached before, since i only began following college ball in 2003...he has coached successful teams (elite 8 and 4 sweet 16s), hes recruited top talent, even when these kids could have been jumping to the nba, and hes developed good pros (and more so, pros kids are watching now and know)...hes had a layoff of 7years and showed no interest in coaching so no one ever brought him up for alot of jobs, but the fact is, hes got everything anyone could want in a hire, and if we got him right after he left ucla this would have been HUGE news...so why shouldnt it be now...and now, with all the mid major coaches signing elsewhere and big names shutting us down, this is monachs last chance to save face and make a hire that wont have people calling him and the school a failure

Buzz Williams left a head coaching git at the Univ of New Orleans to take an asst position at Marquette. Worked out well for him.

We are going to add two head coaches to our staff as helpers?
I find that hard to believe. Very.

I honestly don't know anything about these guys who could potentially be on Lavin's staff but the excitement you guys are displaying is making me excited.

I just want a captain to this ship already.

Leitao used to coach depaul. He'd be a gear addition.

something smells...I don't buy that Globe story.  Leitao and Slice?  Doesn't make sense.

I doubt we can land BOTH Leitao and Slice because that would cost a load of $$, but I could see us landing one of them.  Slice is still the HC at Manhattan but he's on the hot seat.  I would love to see at least one (or obviously both) on the staff!

Peter R. Casey just tweeted that Jay Williams (former Duke version) is in line to possibly become an assistant as well under Lavin!!

(Peter is friendly with Jay Williams, so I trust he's got some good info with this)
