I do not have an issue with Player.

Remember he is one of us. He graduated from St John's

KOB Who doesn't get your support? You talking about Lavin or Keady? And why wouldn't you support them?If you want this team to win again, I see nothing wrong with this move. Could you explain your non support please.

I refuse to support STJ unless I get hired as a coach too. :P ;)

I thought it might be a good idea to keep someone on for continuity (like Cross) but I would also understand if Lavin decides to go in another direction.  Its his ship...he gets to pick the crew.

at some point, you have to realize this is a multi-billion dollar business with the kids providing major tit.

i don't see where this is different than expanding the ncaa tournament to 96 teams to milk more games and less class time out of the kids.

Yes, he did graduate from St. John's.  But, I'd rather start fresh.  Player isn't a "fresh" face, per se'.

So, I'd rather we go down another road.

This is what I heard....Steve is heading down to the final four and has several meetings set....he will be asking permission to talk to two current coaches(book and one I cant name yet). The guy they really want is book and they will offering him a sizable pay increase. He is also deciding the pros/cons of making one of the local guys basketball operations head or something like that. Forget Lamb btw, Charles threw it out their but DL ant coming.

Is Lamb out of play even if we land Book?

IMO the city is WAY down.  NJ is head and shoulders above it for the 20011 class, starting at the #1 overall player and going straight through the top 150.

Add Book and that will give you the Gauchos link.  Add Grasso because the kid is sick and Jersey loves him.  Add Jay Williams to help land two of three out of Mack, Myles, and Johnson.

Adding Hicks or Tiny or another NYC coach could alienate the others.

Jersey should be our recruiting centervfor 2011 and Grasso and Jay Williams could lock it down!!!  What about Fred Hill?

Hill is still the head coach at Rutgers.

He only graduated because it was the only way Jarvis would give him a job.

I love Oz and if there is a spot open I'd love for him to get it. He's a really cool guy and everyone in the AAU circuit likes him too. Anytime I was at any event he'd be there too.

I'll give it about a week after the Final Four, SJD.  Hopefully, we hear some good news about Lavin's staff very soon.

Carmine - are you cool with a Pukon guy (Leitao) but not a Dukie?

Saying we don't want coaches who played or coached at the most successful schools in the biz is the kind of mickey mouse attitude that has held us down for the last 20 years.

Lavin said on Mike and Mike this morning that he would like to have a staff together in the next week to 10 days.

All - I've compiled the assistant coach talk into one post so we can follow it.  There's a lot to say.

Today's DailyNews, as posted by worldsgreatest10, mentions an interview with Hofstra's Van Macon, Loyola-MD's Jimmy Patsos, Book Richardson, Drexel's Tony Chiles, and Villanova's Ed Pinckney (along with Leitao and Slice) as possibilities.

A SJ fan should know the historical difference between having a unreconstituted loathing of the repulsive scum from DoOk University and having a healthy respect for and fear of Calhoun and Uconn. If you don't, ask Billy Singleton. I suspect without knowing that you only mention Uconn in this regard because you're affiliated with the finest Ivy League school in the ACC  and Jim Calhoun has pieces of Shrewschencki in his stool.

As you know, I take a back seat to no one in my utter contempt and loathing for all things DewK. (And that's taking into consideration that the back seat is a much safer place to be when a DoOkIe is driving.) That being said, I have no problem with Jay Williams on staff. He is after all the author of the single most satisfying CLANK in the history of DeWk hating, a choke for the ages that cost the Blue Nipples a national championship. As far as I'm concerned they should put his face on Mount Rushmore.

You forget to mention that his "choke" free throw that could have tied the game against Indiana in the Sweet 16 - a game that should never have been close - came after hitting a 3 pointer WHILE getting fouled.  You also forget to mention that Boozer got the rebound and put up a pathetic follow up shot that would have won.

Don't put it on Jay Williams - the greatest Duke player of the last decade - and one of the greatest college guards of all time.  He has a national title in his book as well.  As well as a whole hoard of highlights including the singlehanded comeback against Maryland in College Park.  Jay was a 66% FT shooter that year - or so - just because someone misses one FT when it counts doesn't make them unclutch.  Jay proved he was clutch his whole career.
