According to Roger Rubin he is close to becoming director of basketball operations.

Hicks likely would be director of basketball operations.

New York Daily News has learned St. John's is closing in on hiring highly-decorated coach Maurice Hicks from Manhattan's Rice High.

I dont know much about this guy. I havent heard his name mentioned much lately. Would this be a good hire considering that he wouldnt be one of the top 3 assistants.

This would be an AWESOME move.  He's extremely well known and yet doesn't have many enemies, unlike many of the bigtime HS or AAU coaches in the city.

I was real happy when I first read this in general, but then when I read for DOBO I was ecstatic.  If it is all true and we have Dunlap, Chiles, assistant X and then Hicks that is the dream team Lavin had talked about.

If hired do you think Jack automatically comes also or would it just help our chances with him.

Right there with you on this one scoob. With Hines/Hicks on board the nyc angle is covered. Now add an adubato(nj/nba ties) or hines(dc/nba ties) and the staff would be ready to go to war with the rest of the BE. Nice work steve-o!

So when does Jack announce for Sju? ;)

Isnt there some sort of rule saying that if a High School coach is hired to a college staff, that a kid from that school cannot get a scholarship for a year?

About 10 days ago one of my "sources" who is in the "know" told me Lavin was still sorting a lot of things out but if he wanted Mo Hicks he'd be willing to come. It was very premature at that point and he/she told me to keep it under wraps for now. So I put him in the poll just to gauge people's interest in him but Slice and Leito were the hot names while Jay Williams was the celebrity choice.  Looks like its unfolding though.

As for Jay Williams I think things have cooled there as other candidates have emerged however I'd still love to have him on board if there is room.

So he could be the DOBO but not an assistant and the kid could still sign?

Yes....  Remember Baylor hired John Wall's AAU coach, as DOBO, in an attempt to lure Wall.

Hines is in. Only question is will Dunlap be in. Will know by sunday I guess. If he is in then I guess Adubato is out because the 3 positions will be filled and praying Mo takes the Dobo spot. Wow
