Anthony Mason Jr. Working Out at IMG [Hoopsworld]
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:56:11 PM »
I'm hoping someone sees the potential in Mase Jr.  I think he'll have to start out of the NBA - and someone needs to tell him to shoot the same way each time - but there were times even this season where he got up there and flashed a little of that athleticism.

Anthony Mason, Jr - 6'7, 213lb Forward: Yes, Mase Jr, is the son of former NBA player Anthony Mason, and while not nearly the physical intimidator that Mase Sr, was, Mase Jr. is a player on pogo-sticks.

Anthony got injured at St. John's and was awarded a fifth year of eligibility and while Mason was clearly on his way as an NBA prospect, the injuries and the rehab from injuries really derailed the process for him.

He is clearly an off-the-radar prospect, but after spending a day with him in the gym there is a lot he brings to the table and he could sneak up on teams especially in the second round.

To sum up Mason in one word – bouncy. Mason is a high energy player with lots of athletic ability. He goes hard at the basket and was consistently hammering home dunks at every opportunity and has a decent mid-range game.

Mason could be one of those players who gets a few workouts and starts to generate some buzz, mainly because he is every bit of 6'7 and you can see that he has a ton of promise.

Ultimately it will be up to Mason Jr, to wow NBA teams so it will be interesting to see where he ultimately ends up.

I love Mason Jr the person, but this is entirely wrong.

Honestly, I always felt that if Mase played on a team with good players he'd be real solid.  Even this year when he came back he gave quality minutes and I thought embraced his role.  I feel like we all critiqued his faults for the 5 years he was here but the reality is, what couldn't Mase do well?  He has a lot of tools and is a legit 6'7.  He can pass, shoot, rebound, defend, just nothing great.  I guess his biggest weakness would be his ballhandling but really, he's not going to be asked to handle it that much at the next level.  Regardless I always thought someone would take a shot on him because of his name alone and I'm sure big Mase has some contacts around still.

I don't think he attacked the basket enough (though that might have also been the "motion" offense St. John's ran), but if he has his legs under him, that's an accurate description of glimpses we've seen.  Some of his dunks at the end of the season (though few and far between) were nasssty.

Do you mean some of the dunks he had at Depaul? Yes, I agree, but is that so much different than some of the dunks he had against NJIT?

Did he ever play against NJIT?
