16. St. John’s: The Red Storm added their first recruit under Steve Lavin this week, California jumping jack forward Dwayne Polee, an excellent late addition.

I don't think we should be ranked last but we only had one spot to fill.  I'm not sure how they rank a 4 man class against a 1 man class its different circumstances but whatever I'll take Polee and be happy.

Ironic how our highest rated recruit in what 7, 8, 9 years has earned us the worst ranking in the league.

Personally, I feel these recruiting class rankings are misleading.
We only have a spot for one kid, and that spot was filled with the Los Angelos City Player of the Year.

I'm more worried about were we rank in 2011.   This is meaningless.

Polee is not universally highly rated.  Guys like Lamont Hamilton, Daryll Hill, Q Calhoun, Justin Burrell all came with some excitement over their potential, I think they were top 100 on Rivals (I believe).

Also, on Polee from Rivals (answered by Jerry Meyer):

Polee comparison

How good is Dwayne Polee? Is he a pure [small forward] at the college level? For those on the East Coast who haven't seen him play, who does he compare to? Thanks very much.

- Bob from Hempstead

Polee is a top-shelf athlete with a limited skill package. He gets his points in transition, slashing to the basket and off the offensive glass. Basically he is an at-the-basket finisher with limited shooting range and ballhandling abilities.

On the other side of the ball, he has the potential to be an outstanding multipositional defender.

Polee is good pickup for St. John's and new coach Steve Lavin, especially with it being so late in the recruiting season.

It will be interesting to see if Polee can develop his game at St. John's like Travis Leslie has developed his game at Georgia. Leslie came into college with the same profile as Polee - super athlete but with a limited skill package.

I think Polee should sue Rivals for slander for saying he has a "limited package"!

They were called out by maybe one source, but they weren't highly rated universally. I think Hill was top 20 on ESPN one summer. Monty was never top 100, but he had a solid 4 star rating.

Calhoun was always an ehh, prospect. Never supposed to be great.
And he wasn't.

Burrell came in with some fanfare. Top 50 in some circles, but then not even ranked in others.

Polee is coming off an impressive award, but we really don't know what to expect out of him because he plays so far away. Hopefully, he'll fit right in as a slasher who can put it on the floor, and finish.

We could use one of those.

What I got from the reports was that he could finish, but the put it on the floor part needed work.

That's fine by me; one thing that has just pissed me off in the last 3+ is the inconsistent development.  I'm hoping having Dunlap and Hines, along with Lavin and even Mo Hicks will mean guys can come in and become actually better, refine their games, make the same mistake fewer times.

We certainly could use another David Russell or Willie Glass type player rockin' the rims at the garden again. :o

Hopefully DP develops into a key player during our resurgance. Kid certainly has a lot of potential.

He's the #31 ranked SF on scout.  Has a pretty good rating of 92 on ESPN and is not ranked on Rivals.  So a highly touted recruit he is not (even though one service ranked him 29 I believe).  He obviously has the athletic ability hopefully his skills catch up to them under this staff.

All state team honors and city POY honors don't translate to being a star in college.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I was actually with Ray last weekend in scenic Fort Wayne.
I don't think he'd ever regard himself as a scout.
He's a diehard Pitt fan.

its a good signing for even just excitement purposes...get a kid with a 40 inch vertical and have him dunking all over everyone, and fans might actually come out to watch some games...btw, idk how reliable it is, but i saw this the other day, and thought it'd be worth posting:

David Thompson?  A man specifically known for vertical leaping not on the list?  Also too bad Ollie Taylor wasn't in the league.  My favorite big leaper.  A 6 ft. guard that threw it down on 7' 2" Artis Gilmore.
