Omari told me, at the third exhibition game in Canada in November, that he would "not be back to StJ next year" after I commented that he would be the go to guy on the Johnnies in two years.
He repeated, " I won't be back!", "I will be in the pros".   I lost my some of my enthusiasm for him as a fan at that time but respected his goal.
I will say he was among the best passers I had ever seen in those two games in Ottowa, at least as good as Omar Cook, but it was clear his intention was not to be here.  I wish him well and I hope he acheives his dream.  We are fellow Bronxites.
In the pros, huh? I hope he thought he was pulling your leg, because that's crazy talk.

I hope he balls well at K-State and enjoys "lovely" Manhattan... Kansas with the other New Yorkers.  He's right for that team - he'll draw a crazy number of fouls.  Just hope K-State is still in a major conference by the time he's eligible to play.

I heard that from someone else who Omari told that too.  Crazy talk.

That pro talk if true was misguided. You have to understand, every kid thinks they are going pro. All of them! When realty sets in it's a humbling experience like it was this year. K-State will be getting a focused an in shape Omari. This is the best he has looked since his junior year in HS. I tell you know lie with how he is playing now he would have pushed to be a starter.

He'll be a nice 1,2 punch with Gaston at Fordham

I understand everyone wanting to eventually get to the pro's.  But who is in their ears.  Take a step back.  A borderline top 100 player isn't going to leave school and make it to the NBA in 2 yrs in most cases.  I'm watching the MLB Draft right now and I think they handle it right.  Give you the option out of HS to come out.  But after that your in college for a few years.

There are guys in the NBA who weren't top 100 players in highschool.

Moose you listening to the St. John's baseball game?

Not saying there aren't guys that weren't ranked high that made it.  Just saying kids that aren't ranked that high need to stop with the pie in the sky ideas.  When I heard from someone about Omari's declaration that he won't be at STJ for more than 2 years I knew it wouldn't turn out well.  I wish him nothing but the best but I think he needs to focus on improving himself and so far he didn't fare well after 1 year.

I followed the game on Gametracker.  Young team should be back next year.  They do need some pitching though.

I agree with you. There are just to may people in these kids ears. Also remember at the height of his recruitment he was a top 50 junior. He fell off the radar during that summer because he couldn't go to any camps including the NBA top 100 camp and Lebron Skill Camp. So at the time he was a hot comodity, not borderline. Outplayed Lance head to head when Raymonds played Lincoln at LIU/Brooklyn. Obviously he has yet to regain that form but I think he can. It's so interesting cause speaking to all those Gaucho kids:Kemba,Truck, Parrom, etc. you can not tell them they are not going to the league. Crazy.

Lawrence should stay local, Fordham. He and Gaston would be good together

Maybe he'd like some better coaching, and playing for a team with a chance to make the NCAAs.  K-State would be a great fit.

Omari had 32 in Hoops in the Sun tournament. He's on Dwight Hardy's team. Dwight looked good too. O had 24 in Dykman with Dwight's team again. Those two looked unstoppable. He's back. K-State getting a steal. Heard he was supposed to visit Memphis too. I don't think Fordham is in the running for his services, LOL.
Hardy will be a beast this year by the way.

Hardy had 20 something. Deadly from three as usual. Comp at Dykman and Hoops in the Sun is top notch. Omari brought Malik Wayans from Nova to play with them. that three blew out Dominican Power at Dykman. That's the house team. Wayans should have a big year for Nova too. First step is crazy to the basket.

Sure they do. These are high profile tournaments. Nobody is trying to get embarrassed out there. You guys should get from behind the computers some time and check these games out.  I know some of you guys do so you know the deal. Especially Dykman. That may be the best tournament in the city.

Yea most summer leagues are around that cost for sponsorship. I also know that many corporate sponsors have some side action going on so they definitely want their guys to compete. However you'll notice much more defense come playoffs
