he hurt his shoulder got fat. healed it was still fat. coach at south kent never made him get into shape. he just lifted weights and played. he thought he was gonna step into the big east with his skills. not being in shape. he was feeling himself the staff didnt control him and whip him into shape. he got back into shape during the middle of the season but it was to late. but he is straight now. humbled like hell but i think it was for the best i got my man omoney back. he is oh so focused now.

I wish he would have stayed.  I had him in there as a starter by midseason this year and for the next two years.  He could do it all.  Not happy about this. Do you think he was nudged out by Lavin?

Nobody held a gun to his head.  He was told what he needed to do.  Now made his bed and has to sleep.

Why would Lavin tell Omari to get lost especially with only 1 scholarship and a less than avg big east roster?  Reading these posts and seeing his schools when he was being recruited he was a very nice get for SJU.  Lavin has been away from the game for 7 years and only got to see Omari when he was announcing and game tape from the studio and when he got to SJU.  He has a guy from the NY area now on his staff and has seen Omari since he was young to tell him this kid is going to be a player and we need him. That is one of the reasons why Lavin wanted the NY ties. I doubt if the ny guys were behind Omari, Lavin would still tell him to hit the road.  If Lavin told him he needs to be in shape to play and this kid is not liking someone in his face than it is on him and his mental toughness.

Didnt He also claim that he loved SJU and that he was ecstatic that he was  coming here?   Maybe he liked the school and Norm because there was no pressure on him to do what it takes to become a star.  Does he think the grass is greener on the other side by going to another school?  Who ever he talked to that made him want to leave woke this kid up because he now(from what I read) is back to his old form.  It is a shame he is leaving but I would imagine with the buzz around the team now, he would be even more happy about playing at SJU.  Easy for me to say because i am not in his spot, but transferring does not always work out especially with the schools he is choosing from.  All except for maybe GW, he is going to have to fight for playing time the rest of the way out.

This kid might become a star and might not.  Just because he is getting a fresh start, unless he is willing to put in 100% year in and year out he will get no where, I do not care if he goes to Iona.(no offense Iona guys)

was a little upset finding out omari was leaving. He was one of my favorite players and seemed to have one of the better personalities on the team. Always though he should have gotten more playing time personally so i can understand him leaving. Maybe the where planning on redshirting him. Either way i dont think he saw much playing time coming this year so he left. understandable
i wish him the best wherever he chooses to go

imagine omari and dwayne polee as a 2-3 or 3-4...would have ben pretty nice  :-[

Omari should stay close to home and be a star rather than go to a big and be a role player. Worked out well for Luis Flores

JPM I think your on the money. Never got back into shape after injury. Well he sure is in shape now and schools have taken notice. Looks like he is setting up visits now. I must admit had he looked like this in the beginning. He would have played a hell of a lot. Gained 3 inches on his vertical. Wow! He is working out with some major dudes.

I thought I saw K-State somewhere.  Can't find it now.

Omari told me, at the third exhibition game in Canada in November, that he would "not be back to StJ next year" after I commented that he would be the go to guy on the Johnnies in two years.
He repeated, " I won't be back!", "I will be in the pros".   I lost my some of my enthusiasm for him as a fan at that time but respected his goal.
I will say he was among the best passers I had ever seen in those two games in Ottowa, at least as good as Omar Cook, but it was clear his intention was not to be here.  I wish him well and I hope he acheives his dream.  We are fellow Bronxites.

In the pros, huh? I hope he thought he was pulling your leg, because that's crazy talk.

I hope he balls well at K-State and enjoys "lovely" Manhattan... Kansas with the other New Yorkers.  He's right for that team - he'll draw a crazy number of fouls.  Just hope K-State is still in a major conference by the time he's eligible to play.
