I guess with the recruitment of Anderson and our heightened interest in Rysheed Jordan (2013 recruit) then he must've envisioned his time being chopped.

Maybe, he re-commits at some point.  Honestly, I don't think he will if Anderson comes aboard.

I think that the interest in Jordan has more influence than the recruitment of Kyle Anderson. When Jevon Thomas committed to us, we were recruiting Anderson and there was a possibility of getting him, too.

We are in Anderson´s final list since May (and with many options). Why didn´t Thomas decommit then? Then there was no offer to Jordan.

Trust me Kyle's recruitment has an impact on Jevon.

Yes SJU has been recruiting Kyle but they have really climbed the last few weeks to where most think it is between SJU and SHU.  Combine that with the fact that SJU has made it clear that Kyle will play point if he comes I think Jevon feels he is getting squeezed out.

One thing I've learned quickly is that if you don't want to play for St. John's or don't buy into what Steve Lavin is doing/saying. Lav will move on so quick and chances are to something better.

Jevon was getting a little testy with some things and that's all it took for the option if you want to look elsewhere go ahead... On to the next one...

Jevon Thomas is certainly a very good player, a player I'd want, but not a must get nor a must need. He's replaceable.

Is Jevon from BK or Qu?
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

That's great news.  I didn't realize STJ told Kyle he would play PG.  For some reason i was under the impression that PG wasnt a guarantee.  Did this happen recently or was this always the case with Kyle?

Thanks in advance.

Lavin shall not worship false Gods.

If the kid is already a problem child, let him go play somewhere else.
Lavin is not desperate for any recruit. I love how HE isn't afraid to do the right thing.

Lavin doesn't seem like the guaranteeing type.  I think he probably did his typical schpeal about how KA could fit in and how he would be used in a variety of roles surrounded by killer athletes.

i haven't seen jevon play...but from the reviews, he's the real deal.

let him check the landscape...but i'd love for him to realize he'll have the best chance at st john's.

Very sad to see him de-commit, but in fairness this will be one of the most important decisions of his life.  And if he feels doubt about signing with St. John's at this stage, I can't fault him for wanting to take a step back and reevaluate his options.  After taking some visits elsewhere, if he still feels SJU is the best fit for him, then at least he'll extinguish any doubt in his mind about it.

As for the program, it obviously hurts to possibly lose a talent such as Thomas, but the school has to pick up where it left off and keep on trying to acquire the best talent in the country.  Perhaps it's a pipe dream, but bringing in two star quality players in Anderson and Gathers could be the final pieces in making a run in the tournament.

Lavin is not promising anyone anything and any player who does not want to earn time on a team that will play many different combinations is welcome to look elsewhere.

Good post - agreed.  Jevon can be a big contributor here, regardless of how many top players are here - he'll be in good company and assist in getting into the upper 3rd of the Beast and making deep runs in the tourney.

I disagree.  He's been hemming and hawing for months now and even threatened to de-commit on twitter if Lavin brought in another guard.  In my mind, it is undermining to the head coach to be making threats in a public forum like Twitter.  Last thing we need to do is bring kids on board that are making threats to de-commit before they even come on board, and want to de-commit to now find a better situation.  I don't have any problem with Jevon doing so, but I don't really want to see us keep the scholarship open for him.  I'd rather we move on.  It sends a bad message.

The other side of this is that in the crux of the 2012 recruiting season, Jevon is opening things up and leaving Lavin and Co. without a position they thought was locked up.  Like I said, I have no problem with Jevon de-committing, but I want to see us move on from the kid and I'm pretty sure Lavin has.   I don't think he's going to play that game either, especially a month or two before the fall signing period. We're not in the position where we need him on board any more and like I said, I want to see players that are sure that they want to be here.  If he's complaining about us recruiting another guard before he even starts, then he'll be doing it every year that Lavin recruits another guard.  Good luck to him.  Let's land somebody else.  I think it is telling that Lavin offered Katin Reinhardt a few hours later.  I'd much rather have Reinhardt.
