When Gathers signed with Baylor, all the fans said we needed Shepard.  When Shepard signed with SDSU, all the fans said we needed to sign Sampson again.  When Sampson supposedly rules us out of the running, all the fans said we needed to sign Obekpa.

And if we fail to sign him, who are we going to need to sign next?  Listen, I'm holding out hope that there is a grand scheme on the recruiting front, but as of right now it seems the 2012 class is a huge failure.  Signing two or three under the radar JUCO's is kind of unacceptable when your sole responsibility has been recruiting.

Not really. We have two stars and 1 emerging star returning next year. With that and an improving Greene and Pointer, we could do very well with a role playing, shot blocking moose or two, and another shooter. Is that the ideal ? No but we could make the dance, get coach back showing his health is not an issue, and really bring in a killer class for 2013. I don't know about you but after suffering through 6 years of Norm, I'm not worried.

Nice post Derk. We need depth at this point. We don't need 4-5 top 75 recruits. We have our horses, lets build around them.

And I forgot Branch. I'd be fine if it worked out that way.

Ron Roberts looks great right now, he's owning Temple. He might be the 6th man of the year. But we don't have a spot for me, another great decision by the staff

You're starting to sound like Bobre. Will you be saying this same thing five years from now?

It is nearly impossible to successfully drive forward while looking exclusively in the rear-view mirror.

How does Kansas have room too give away scholarships with three signed and two verbals?

He is going to be riding the pine at Kansas. All the other schools seem like better fits for Sampson

Some conflicting reports tonight that we're still looking real strong with Jakarr.  Let's just wait this out and see what happens before wire Jakarr off.  I think we might be jumping the gun just because we're used to disappointment.  Maybe Jakarr will come through for us SJU fans.  He'd be making a fantastic decision for himself as well.

It's amazing how spoiled some of our fan base has become in a short period of time.  Just because Lavin got commits from every name we came across last year doesn't mean it happens every year.  Let's wait until April before we have hissy fits

One minute you got Jakarr the next you don't then you do! Spend to much time thinking about this type of situation.  I hope this young man does well for himself and hope sju is the place! If not coach Lavin will bring young men who will learn and improve as humans and ballers!

We have two of the biggest impact freshmen on the nation on one team.  If hs prospects aren't drooling over that, then I don't know what does it for them.  Arguably both D'Lo and Harkless could share Big East ROY and both IMO are first or second team freshman All Americans.  Prospects need to realize that this doesn't happen often, and is not a coincidence considering neither was in considerations for McD's AA status.

Question:  do we not get an official from JS this time around?  Would be nice to have him come out for the BE Tourney.

Gut still tells me Jakarr ends up at SJU.  Seems like a good kid.  SJU and Lavin never wronged him.  Hope it's the case.  Seems like a kid that would love playing with "the fam"

Good points Macus. Back to back Saturday nationally televised wins can't hurt either. Vitale crowing about our future as well. As anxious as I have been recently about 2012 recruiting, I am now reaffirming my faith in Coach Lavin. Otherwise, I am going to shorten my life.  :)

Agree with what you say about the freshman but that could scare off someone who does not have the self confidence of a D'Angelo.  We need good players coming in but we need lads who have the confidence that they can play with the fresh five.  Could we be losing out on those who want to take the easy way rather than compete with the fresh five for minutes and notoriety?

I'll take one D'Angelo over 4 primadonna's any day.  D'Angelo doesn't destroy teams because of freakish athleticism.  He works harder than anybody on the court and his sheer will coupled with some talent turns him into a monster out there.  Love D'Angelo.  I want competitors like D'Lo, Garrett, Pointer etc...
