Chris Allen, according to Jeff Goodman, is visiting Iowa State and considering St. John's and UTEP.

I think he would be a good pick up at this point. Kid could practice with the team this year and be ready to go next.

Not crazy about 1 yr of eligibility.  Plus reasons for his dimissal are 'clouded'.

With our scholarship imbalance he might be nice to have for 1 year. We're gonna have to go JUCO route for some players why not accept a transfer?

Maybe getting booted was exactly what Allen needed. Certainly a humbling experience and it seems that he's taken it gracefully.

If it wasn't a serious offense that got him kicked off the team then I would take this kid. We need some veterans for next year on a team that will be pretty much devoid of experience. He has NCAA tourney experience and if he's starting for M.State which is one of the best programs in the country then he has got to be a player.

I loved his game when they made the Final Four.  I really expected more out of him this past season.  As a senior, he could help restore some balance to our scholarship situation.  He'd also be amazing to have practicing and leading the team this season.  It's not every day that you can pickup a senior that has been to a national championship game.

He could really help push Horne, Hardy, and Kennedy.

I say take a chance on the kid with so many scholarships to go around it is worth a shot. It will help balance out the roster and the kid can play

His laziness was a factor in him getting the boot from MSU.  A factor combined with other things.  While I see the point of having a proven veteran with the likes of Polee, Quincy and Stith I do think a lot of things need to be 'hashed' out here before bringing him on board.

Leadership doesn't necessarily have to come from a Senior or even an upperclassman.

Tom Izzo is one of the most respected basketball people in the world. There must have been a real reason he kicked a Senior, who has contributed to two Final Four appearances, off his team.

Like I said, I will pass.

Sure there was a reason but there is no reason why he can't learn from that. He's worth investigating.

Let me ask you this....

If Allen admitted fault and vowed to change his ways would you take a chance on him for a season?

Everyone deserves 2nd chances.  I'm all for that and I think everyone is.  However I don't think we're in a position yet to be taking chances like that.  I also think it might hurt the chances of getting some of these studs if they fear playing time might be in danger from a guy who is a senior and has played at a high level like Michigan State and the Final Four.

He can admit his wrongdoing and promise change but I still think I would rather focus on other options.

So you'd rather take a flyer on an unproven JUCO who most likely couldn't get into a D-1 school due to grades? I mean I'd rather go with a Final Four starter imo. If it fails its one season and you're done. Its not like we'll be forced to play him.

Where did I say that I want an unproven JUCO?

Thanks

I just don't see it happening and while everyone deserves a 2nd chance I'd rather it not be here.  There is too much good going on in the program I don't want to run the risk of throwing a grenade into the huddle with someone who was booted from a program even if its just for 1 year.

Be nice to have some experience, though.  Moose, I think Dave's getting at the idea that some players will come on board from JUCO, but Dave, you jumped to a bit of a conclusion there.  Maybe Moose wants all freshmen.  And no need to disparage JUCOs.  Happens for all kinds of reasons.

Personally, I think the staff should only be interested in big men who want to transfer.  It's relatively not that hard to find talented guards on the JUCO or high school level.  But bigs who can start in November of 2011 are much harder to find.

No, I would not take him. It is not like the kid is program changer.

Don't you think he vowed to change to Izzo too.
