Recruiting Predictions and notes
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:12:05 PM »
-Amir Garret will be the next one to commit. Jevon Thomas '12 might not be far behind.

-D'Angelo Harrison is most likely to be the next to commit after that.

-Phil Greene wants to commit but I think we'll hold off for now and see whats up with Jabari Brown first.

-Quinn Cook may fall into our lap but ultimately we need a little luck to land him.

-Naadir Tharpe would be fall back plan to Cook but possibly Cezar Guerrero could jump ahead of him.

-I admittedly have no idea whats going on with Jakarr Sampson

-Pelle might not be the best choice to bring into this program. He is talented but I've heard a lot of negative things regarding his character and work ethic that I'd pass on him. This coming from players and coaches that share this opinion.

I was wondering about Greene committing and how that could or would impact other targets playing the same position (ala, Brown and Harrison).

Hopefully, we can find out sooner (rather than later) on those kids, so we don't end up losing out altogether.

I'm gonna assume Jakarr Sampson probably is focusing on his academics.  Just a hunch, as I am also wondering what's going on with him.

Maybe, the staff feel Pelle's positives outweigh his negatives and he's worth it.  Who knows!?!  I heard he's probably a spring signee, so we'll see how that one plays out.

Lastly, I'm hoping to land, as many blue-chippers and solid kids, as possible.  I also hope we don't get burnt while playing the 'waiting game.'

Intriguing times ahead.

Why is Greene taking an official today (?) if he wasnt offered ?

It would hurt to lose Greene, waiting for Brown. (we're 1 of 7 on his list)
Lavin visiting Brown 9/30, so a month away at earliest.

Although if Harrison commits soon, then we're fine.

Greene isn't the only recruit we are placing on hold.  I'd take a shot at Pelle in spite of what is said about his character.  From what I know about him, he seems like a kid that would take a bullet for his friends and family and he's trying to get get better as a person.

Taken or fired? j/k

He actually gave his best effort after getting into it with a guard that he was 9 inches taller than at the Super 64. A different AAU coach told a vocal brother of a prospect to yell pregame insults to the team's center, who is a top 50 prospect, in order to try to get his big motivated.

Why would we want them when the non-locals the staff thinks they'll get are better? Let a scrub program like Iona have them.

Outside of Pelle, tell the big men that we are recruiting better than Randall.

There just aren't very many quality or serviceable big men in the 2011 class.

It's tricky w/ AAU politics and qualifying, but I hope Kevin Johnson, who is at least serviceable and we need a few big bodies, is still somewhere on their radar. As of two weeks ago, a friend said Illinois, USC, and Arizona St. were coming after him the hardest. It's highly unlikely that Hubert comes.

I think if we hit on all our targets, we go somewhat small in the starting lineup, with Pelle at the five and Sampson at the four. I suspect we may see one as of yet unmentioned juco or a 6'9"+ Canadian/Australian kid.

I think the staff is willing to take their chances with a smaller lineup until 2012-13. After the Norm debacle, I'm willing to take a chance as well.

Who knows, maybe a big man transfers to us after first semester this year and we get him for the meat of the schedule in 2012.
