I don't think he is necessarily a plan B.  Every team needs bench players.  I think it is wise of the staff to recruit some older bigmen with a little more experience.

Anyone know backstory on this kid?  Can't find much on him from 2 years ago.  How did he go thru the NYC scene relatively unknown?  Growth spurt?  All of a sudden figured out the game?  Any info would be great.  I liked his video.  Its a thorough video, not some 30 second clip of a couple of poster dunks.

A couple tidbits I have found out there...

http://www.angelfire.com/sports/jc/smcpreview09.html

Bryant Crowder, 6-10, Ctr, frosh. Can finish, rebound and block shots, and should make a huge impact this season. Think Amare Stoudemire in terms of style. Played in the Say No Classic this summer and averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds in the 4 games I saw (going up against plenty of D-1 guys including some from the likes of UCLA and USC), helping his team to the league semifinals. Plays with a purpose and understands the game. With his combination of height, athleticism and skill he’s among the most talented players in the California JC ranks.

Bryant Chewbacca Crowder have serious collegiate upside.Bryant Crowder is a 68 wire with excellent rebounding and finishing skills around the hoop. Against solid overseas talent he performed well dropping 14 points against T2 and Gordie Malone. Crowder has one more year at Progressive and should be on the A-10 to Big East radar

Progressive is outside of NY, right?  So he didn't play here.

6'8 so looks like he hit a late growth spurt.

From what I gather he played his high school ball at Progressive Christian Academy which is in Texas

When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

He's currently on the College of Eastern Utah roster but hasn't showed up in the box scores for the first 2 games.  At one point he apparently was at Rice High School...perhaps a Mo Hicks project.

Not sure it matters but he backed out of his Southern Miss verbal in March so he's out there.

Wow we haven't talked about this kid in a long time. He was a Norm recruit.

Norm?
Thread was started in October?  I never recall his name prior to Lavin on board. Sure it was just kicking tires on JUCO bigs but still.
