The Steve Lavin Hate Begins!

The Steve Lavin Era has officially begun. It's not a real Lav tenure until you lose at home to a team you should beat by 20.

Honestly I have been hearing things like this since the day he was hired. People who have barely watched him coach for some reason just assume he is an awful in-game coach. Lavin has been to a bunch of Sweet 16's and is obviously a great recruiter and a better X's and O's coach than most think. I dont think he can really do much to shake this perception and frankly I dont care if he does. We will be headed to the Sweet 16 and maybe better in the next few years and thats all I care about.

Doesn't UT have their own problems to worry about. They also don't seem to have a good pulse on the program.

One thing I'd like to think of JohnnyJungle.com viewers is that there are a great number of people here who follow college basketball on a national level.

These losses happen to lots of teams.

And they should have seen the coach who came before...!

These kids stunk with Norm, and they stink w Lavin. At this point, win or lose, it's on them.

Sometimes, it's the players.

Exactly.  Anyone jumping to conclusions this early about Lavin either have an ax to grind or know nothing about St. John's basketball.  Lets enjoy this season for what it will be.  A transitional season bridging the remnants of Norm with the new direction of the program.

Personally I love the fact that we have a coach that garners national attention.  We haven't had one since Jarvis and that was only because he had a big yap that wouldn't shut up.

It will make our rise to prominance only that much sweeter proving these people wrong.

Coach Lavin has celebrity in the NCAA Basketball world and will be an institution at STJ before he leaves the program. What he has already done is beyond description. He is a winner and will put us up among college elite programs. He is going to bust his butt with this group. This is going to be a tough year.
The Big East needs a strong SJU program!

since this is a coach discussion and i happy to have Steve on board as the future looks bright.

that being said was the time out after the Bonnies basket the correct move?  it gave them time to set the defense.  Would you have done it that way or had the team inbound the ball for the last shot on a set play in the situation?

They do happen, but it's a bad loss (14-14.5 favorite at home).
Most of us are adults and there's no need to sugarcoat it.
If it's a close call in March, this loss may wind up knocking us out of the Tournament. That said, these guys have to just move on. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us. Just try to  correct the mistakes in the limited practice time available and concentrate the collective efforts on the next opponent.

BTW, for any UCLA fan taking glee in this loss, Montana.

As far as I'm aware we have 2 top 100 recruits playing for us, and a bunch of kids that made us scratch our heads on signing day...and bc they're seniors its expected they do something spectacular.  Our best player is a possible 2nd rounder.  That's the cold hard truth. We lost to a mediocre team, I don't get how its a big deal. And if they wanna make the tourney, well they have a hell of a lot of chances in conference play to make up for one questionable loss
