i read where whitehead named MVP of this week's CYP tournament in westchester.  is this a special tournament?

I think this year was the 65th or 66th year.  I go and post about it on the boards every year.  The players who have played there are pretty much a who's who of NCAA and NBA for the Metro area.  You name the player and he has played there.  What's unique is its played in a church CYO Pee Wee gym so its tiny.  Its a track meet, its tough, they don't call many fouls.  But to see these kids sometimes before they blow up is great chance.  My first memory was seeing Dayna Abrams and Otis Hill there.  Years later was the great Riverside team of Brand, Artest and Barkley.  Harkless was MVP a couple years ago.  You should try to make it next year.  It runs Thursday thru Tuesday.

*In terms of teams its not what it used to be.  Used to be Riverside, Gauchos, Panthers and very recognizable AAU programs.  A lot of the teams now are mash ups with players on teams just for this event etc.

Tom is always there.  And very willing to talk with anyone.  Its really a interesting time.  Its not the most well run in the world but it adds to the experience IMO.  I have a program at home.  Will try to scan the pages with the all tournament teams and the players who have played there.  Quite a list.

Somehow we keep hanging on his list even though the board makes it sound like we have no chance

It seems Lavin and staff have not been consistently following him from what I understand. Could be wrong.

Home school should always be kept as a safety school.

Kids like Whitehead don't need to list a safety school.

Emergencies might cause kids to want to stay home at the last minute.  Nice to have that option.

Whitehead, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Lincoln (N.Y.), is among the top 10 players at his position. He's also one of the best pure scorers in the class, but is continuing to improve his all-around skills.

“I just want to get better,” Whitehead said. “I want to get ready for college, since it's my senior year. I'm working on my jump shot, my handle, everything.”

Syracuse, Louisville and St. John's were all in attendance for Friday night's performance, and those are three of the schools in the mix for Whitehead. Kentucky and UCLA are also in pursuit.

Louisville and Syracuse are the two coming after him the hardest.

“They're both run and run, they play defense, and they have great coaches,” Whitehead said.

Says essentially the same thing as Borzello.  Mentions the 5 schools of Ville, Cause, SJU, UCLA and UK as his 5.

This 2015  Philly kid Derrick Jones seems intriguing SJU not being mentioned with him yet.

Spoke to someone recently who said Syracuse signing Tyler Ennis and Ron Patterson might be the best thing that happened to whitehead as far as sju is concerned. Those kids aren't one and done kids and Kentucky never made a formal offer , the person to beat for whitehead is Louisville. But as the person said signing both Kadeen and isaiah in the same class is not far fetched. We are the leaders early for carrington, Rico and the Gonzales brothers hav good history.

Assume he means Ed Gonzales, the Loughlin Coach. I would take it he has a brother involved as well?

Any indication if Isaiah will sign in the fall or wait till spring?

Also, fwiw, playing time isn't the recruiting tool it once was for us.
It's pretty realistic that for what would be Whitehead's freshmen year we could have 3 senior guards and a sophomore Rysheed all returning.   That's not too appetizing for guys who want to be one and done.
