Says essentially the same thing as Borzello.  Mentions the 5 schools of Ville, Cause, SJU, UCLA and UK as his 5.

This 2015  Philly kid Derrick Jones seems intriguing SJU not being mentioned with him yet.
Spoke to someone recently who said Syracuse signing Tyler Ennis and Ron Patterson might be the best thing that happened to whitehead as far as sju is concerned. Those kids aren't one and done kids and Kentucky never made a formal offer , the person to beat for whitehead is Louisville. But as the person said signing both Kadeen and isaiah in the same class is not far fetched. We are the leaders early for carrington, Rico and the Gonzales brothers hav good history.

Gonzales brothers?
Thoughts got confused there for a second was referring  to chiles and his connection to Ed Gonzales back at All Hallows'. And Orlando Antigua came to see whitehead but no offer was made. (Thinking of Antigua brothers in my head as I was typing)

Lol. Gonzalez is carringtons current coach who is good friends and also coached with tony chiles at all hallows. We are in good standing with whitehead our biggest comp is pitino. Kentucky is being mentioned but they have not offered whitehead.

Could never blame a kid for wanting to play for Pitino.

Well I've always thought we were out of it with Whitehead, but I can't fault the staff for going hard after him.  They have been pretty steadfast with his recruitment for quite a while now.  Looks like we're not backing off.  Maybe in the end it works in our favor.  We'll see...

It's pretty stunning what a recruiting turnaround has happened in Queens.  The coaching crew has us legitimately competing with Louisville, Syracuse, uconn, et al?   It's really great to just take a step back and appreciate it.

And it'll get better if Lavin continues to get kids to the pros.  When you help players fulfill their dreams and get into the league (Harkless and Sampson, in the future), players start to really pay attention.

If he was from California we might have seen us back off, but there really is no reason to back off a top local kid. It costs nothing to have a coach at every permissible in-city game. Ride it out until the bitter end even if we aren't in his top three right now.

With NBA dreams in the minds of most of these kids out there, the track records of the various coaches  play a big part in recruiting (bigger, I feel than a lot of fans and more than a few gurus want to admit).   So it becomes important to note that those ranks have shrunk considerably in the last two years with Calhoun's retirement, and Howland out of coaching.   Between them, over the last 15 years, they'd sent 34 players to the pros between them.  There aren't many coaches who came close to that total.  Howland will no doubt be back, but he's not in the field right now.  Lavin's 15 in only 9 full years of coaching IS a huge draw.

I agree.   I think coach Lavin's success getting guys to the league is reasons 1 and 2 why recruits are considering us in the first place.  I think his personality and ability to connect with kids and their families helps, no doubt, but getting guys drafted is the evidence they want to see.

The problem I see with Isaiah though, is that next year we could have D'angelo, Rhysheed, Branch, and Greene all returning.    A lot of recruits who have their eyes on being one-and-done won't want to come to a team with a crowded backcourt.
And who can blame them for that?
I know everyone has their own theory on this, but I'm convinced that's why JL is going to Cincinnati.   If Sampson wasn't returning or Sanchez eligible, I think Jermaine is in our uniform next year.   Just my 2 cents.

“@BSnowScout: Isaiah Whitehead was tracked by several schools this weekend. Here is what the Brooklyn native had to say http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1285779.html

For the Juice All-Stars it is clearly Brooklyn (NY) Lincoln standout Isaiah Whitehead who carries the squad. At the Pitt Hoop Group Jam Fest Whitehead had some huge scoring games, and was tracked closely by several college coaches.
The powerfully built 6-foot-4 Whitehead has been a top target for a while, and now he looks to be playing the best basketball of his high school career.

“I am just working on everything,” said Whitehead. “Out here so far it has been going good. A lot of teams are focusing on me since I had some breakout games, but I have to trust my teammates and I am doing that.”

One area in specific where Whitehead looks much improved is with his jumper. Always a kid who attacked the rim, now Whitehead is looking better from the outside as well.

“I have just been in the gym working,” said Whitehead. “I know the more work you put in the more you will get out of it, so I have just been trying to stay busy and keep working.”

Recruiting wise Louisville, Syracuse, St. John’s, UCLA, and Kentucky have been the schools most involved according to Whitehead.

All weekend long assistant coaches from Louisville, Syracuse, and St. John’s tracked every move he made, and all three have made it known he is a priority.

Louisville began to seriously pick things up with Whitehead during the season, and the Cardinals are firmly in the mix.

“I have been hearing a lot from them,” said Whitehead of Louisville. “They are National Champions and you can never overlook that. Also Russ Smith is from New York City and I have talked to him. I have just heard from them a lot and been talking to them.”

Syracuse has seemingly been there with Whitehead from the very beginning, and he already feels like he is a part of the program.

“My relationship with them is crazy,” explained Whitehead. “It is almost like I go there. I know all of the players, coaches, ball boys, everything. We just have a great relationship.”

Also there is St. John’s. The Red Storm are right around the corner for Whitehead, and he has been at numerous games.

“I have been with St. John’s since like eighth grade,” Whitehead explained. “They are like family and I have been to a lot of games.”

For now the four-star prospect is content to sit back, relax, and just see which situation turns out to be the best for him.

“I just want to see what everybody is doing,” said Whitehead. “I don’t want to go to a school with another shooting guard or point guard who might be ahead of me so I am just waiting and getting all the information I can.”

FWIW, his quotes about STJ oddly sound very similar to Rysheed's on Temple.

His quote says a lot to me on what he's looking for. Unless there is movement on the roster with Rysheed possibly 1 and done or a guard transfer, which I don't really want, it will be a tough sell. That being said if we do well next season and guys get NBA opportunities and Whitehead waits until the spring we could be right there.

I agree with your theory but I dont see Rysheed or Whitehead being one and done players. Not sure if they see themselves as one and done players either. I think they see themselves as being able to play in the league and more importantly will want to play for a coach who will get them there even if that means coming off the bench his first year.

I agree with your assessment; I'm not sure if they're one and done players either.   I'd lean towards no.
But like you pointed out - that doesn't mean Isaiah doesn't think he is.   And I think you're looking at it too black and white.   Yes, coach Lavin has a great record of getting guys to the NBA, and maybe they will be willing to wait, and play for him as sophomores.
But there are other coaches out there who get guys into the league AND they might have an opening in their starting lineup.    It's not a situation where all things are equal.
The kid might love Lavin.   But if his choice is play for Lavin and ride the bench for a year(behind D'angelo and Jordan), or play for Pitino (or Boheim or Donovan etc) and start right away.... then that love for coach Lavin better be pretty freaking strong  :D
