Multiple reports now that UCLA has begun agressively recruiting JaQuon Newton for their open PG spot in 2014 (had been pretty much targeting westerners Josh Perkins and Jerome McLaughlin). Thinking was, they had no chance at Newton - but as noted in this thread, they have been on Whitehead for sometime (he visited Westwood last month). With Zags story that the two are considering a package deal (and willing to consider MINNESOTA!), the UCLA staff is now trying to to provide an additional "Package Landing Zone" for the pair.
Man this all gets to be such a jigsaw puzzle. I felt SJU had the upper hand, because the Bruins liked their targeted Perkins/McLaughlin PG/Namon Wright SG combo they've been concentrating on - because the east coasters were too much of a long shot. The "package", if real, shrinks those odds - and a Whitehead/Newton combo might now appear superior (and doable).
We'll have a pretty good idea on August 25th - Josh Perkins will announce his decision on his 17th birthday that day.
