Cryptic tweet of the day...

Ja'Quan Newton ‏@J_Newton20
Me and My Bro @Isaiah_W15 Thinking of Something crazy #Staytuned

Minnesota my guess, but Cuse is also common school. Where are we with Terrell I wonder, not assuming anything.

You can't read too deep into those tweets but both going to minny would stand out as something crazy

fwiw from Minny writer;

“@RyanJamesMN: Texted with Isaiah Whitehead and Ja'Quan Newton. Both said they plan to visit Minnesota but both not sure when.  Likely August.”

“@jeffborzello: Are Isaiah Whitehead and Ja'Quan Newton really going to be a package deal? I dug around, also talked to Whitehead: http://cbsprt.co/11SUC0n

"While nothing looks imminent, a package deal between two of the better Northeast guards in the class of 2014 appears to be a strong possibility."

If 'lil Pitino is the one who recruited you, and if he's the one who you have a great relationship with ...would you follow him to Minnesota now that Louisville has a crowded backcourt?

I wouldn't.  But I'm starting to wonder about these guys

Package deals are all talk. How often do these stars really group up?

Stole the words out of my mouth.  Abu and Terrell and now these guys.  What are the odds either happen?

Really gets into timing, no?  Anytime a school signs more than one recruit in a class, at SOME point both of them have gotten together and said - we can play at the same school.

But heck - we got Karr and Max, Chris and Felix - so obviously DOES happen!  :)

Difference is that our guys went to school together, the other pairs mentioned didn't.

I agree that you can't hang your hat on kids' tweets, etc., but I do respect young Pitino and his solid staff. If Whitehead really wants to go away, in light of recent L'Ville recruitment, I would have to say Minnesota has a great chance. Nothing we can do if IW wants to go away. I just hope we have a shot at Terrell or another quality guard and don't have to settle for Carrington. All in all, I am not counting us out. Kids change their minds every few hours. I trust Lavin will get us a quality guard and a couple of solid big men.

Classmates are different. I guess shabazz and ka were considered a package deal last year, but it feels like zags posts 20 blogs a year about package deals and very few happen.

I would love whitehead but if he wants to go away that is his choice. I hope he visits minny during the winter And not a warm summer day

Totally agree with what you guys are saying.  Kids love talking about package deals in the summer, but when it comes down to it every kid sits down with their family/advisors and decides what's best for him, as an individual.

Also, being "boys" is overstated.  Could be that you just know each other, and get along during the summer circuit.
Not all teammates are as close as Jakarr and Hooper.   That seems like the exception to me.

It isn't always a good idea

Btw, I felt kind of weird Googling "Deuce Bello package"

And again, they were HS teammates not just 2 guys who met at an all-star game.  Big difference.

“@JoshGershon: Isaiah Whitehead having his way with whoever is guarding him. Driving to basket, pulling up, creating for others and defending.”

UA Undeniable Camp this evening.

Hope it's not Dom or Jamal who is attempting.

Multiple reports now that UCLA has begun agressively recruiting JaQuon Newton for their open PG spot in 2014 (had been pretty much targeting westerners Josh Perkins and Jerome McLaughlin).  Thinking was, they had no chance at Newton - but as noted in this thread, they have been on Whitehead for sometime (he visited Westwood last month).  With Zags story that the two are considering a package deal (and willing to consider MINNESOTA!), the UCLA staff is now trying to to provide an additional "Package Landing Zone" for the pair.

Man this all gets to be such a jigsaw puzzle.   I felt SJU had the upper hand, because the Bruins liked their targeted Perkins/McLaughlin PG/Namon Wright SG combo they've been concentrating on - because the east coasters were too much of a long shot.  The "package", if real, shrinks those odds - and a Whitehead/Newton combo might now appear superior (and doable).

We'll have a pretty good idea on August 25th - Josh Perkins will announce his decision on his 17th birthday that day.
