How anyone can honestly complain about Lavin's recruiting is beyond me. Nearly our entire team is 4 or 5 star recruits.

"Cooley eating our lunch" and "Willard cleaning our clocks" illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of our recruiting the past few years compared to those programs.   It is laughable.

Can you name a 2014 target that is uncommitted and still considering SJU?  It's completely fair to observe the current poor position we are in for 14 while being appreciative of the top talent on the roster at present.

Do you want to make a bet we end up with at least one decent player when all is said and done for '14?

I still have hope coach can land a solid 3 man class but what kind of success would one decent player be. You don't go far following up a one man class last year with only one decent player this year especially if we lose some of our better talent early unless you want to sink to the bottom of the BE. A fair bet would be we end up with 3 decent players which I think we will.

I'm not complaining about Lavin's recruiting.  He is money.

We will have 3-4 players to replace. Do you want to bet that we get 3-4 really good recruits?  I'd take the bet that we get fewer than 3 good players and no more than 1 consensus top 100 kids. "Decent" players don't get me excited at this stage of the Lavin era.

When I said decent I meant top 100. One top 100 with 2-3 other 3 star recruits is not a bad class. Guess we're just spoiled.

I greatly appreciate and love Lavin.  I'm merely concerned with how 2014 is going.

Well said.  When you throw in our record for the past two years You have to be concerned about 2014.

I agree with you guys about 2014.  But hasn't Lav and Co. built up enough trust on the recruiting front to give them the benefit of the doubt that things will work out?  My comment was directed to the remark that Providence and Seton Hall have been out-recruiting us during the tenure's of Lavin, Cooley, and Willard.  That's just not true; Seton Hall's recruiting has been a disaster and Cooley has lost out on a lot more of their top targets (3 to us) than he has actually landed.  Maybe Providence changes that this year, but the remark that they are eating Lav's lunch is not accurate.

The Bottom line is some colleges win with 3 star and 4 star players because their system is adequate. There are plenty of hidden gems that play better than the label they are rated also. Everyone wants the super hot model but if u can't provide what she wants.......
Better have a plan B!  ::)

Nobody is debating Lavin's skills on the recruiting front.  But it can't be ignored that St. John's has struck out on its major targets so far.

G'town (Isaac Copeland, LJ Peak, Tre Campbell), Marquette (Sandy Cohen, Malek Harris), and Providence (Paschal Chukwu, Jalen Lindsey) all are shaping up to have great classes.  Seton Hall and Villanova has added some really good players as well.  At this point in time, I haven't heard St. John's linked to any high major recruits (outside of Whitehead, which is doubtful) and keep in mind they are losing major bulk at season's end (Sanchez and GG).

Thought he was going to be Butler bound. Silky smooth scorer. I wonder if they get Quentin Snider now too.

Doody, both players you mention did not step on the court last season.  Both, or at least one will likely be a key player this season, but a high percentage of the players have at least two more seasons playing for this school.  Considering how well Lavin did when he had tons of playing time to dole out, you have to factor the lack of available playing time as the key reason these top players are going elsewhere for 2014.
