Hoya Home Opener [Calm Before the Storm]
« on: January 02, 2011, 05:17:43 PM »
...One thing St. John's fans have to appreciate about Georgetown is that - for a team that should have aspirations of deep NCAA runs - John Thompson III's recent teams never seem to put St. John's away. I don't get it. Last year's New Year's Eve game was close for much of the game, with St. John's taking a 1 point lead in the second half. The Johnnies couldn't score inside in that half, and fell to the Hoyas in Washington, a disappointing loss in a game that could have been stolen.

The Friars and the Mountaineers are tough teams that sometimes struggle to score, even before Big East play. That's not Georgetown; the Hoyas put up points. While the Hoyas have had some turnover problems this year - both in forcing turnovers and holding on to the ball - when they can get shots up they are as dangerous as any team in the country...

Nice write up as usual Peter.  I'm pumped for this game.  Just bought my train ticket this afternoon and will be attending my 1st game of the season.  Let's go Johnnies!

Predictions?

I don't know what to predict, but I think the Johnnies need this game. I also think folks will lose their minds and say the team is a roller coaster when they lose 6 of 7. It'll be interesting to see how they come out against a team that can really score.

SJU 66 G'Town 62

I watched the Notre Dame game on and off because we were playing WV and the entire DePaul game and I was not overly impressed with GTown. The one thing then can do is shot very well from inside and out. I think we can beat them but we will have to play more man-to-man defense then usual. Freeman and Clark could kill us from 3pt if they get open shots we have given to most other teams when we play zone. I think Burrell and Brownlee can have big games because their big men are not that great. We need to defend the 3, score inside and get DJ going early I think we can win this one. Its going to be a great game, biggest G'Town and SJU game in a while.

"They have kids much like our group that have been through the Big East," Thompson said of St. John's. "They know the personnel. They know our guys. Our guys know them. Now they have a new coach, which gives them a little bit of different energy with that, but they're a veteran team that's going to be playing at home in the Garden."

I would also occasionally press 'em, Wods.  DePaul gave 'em some problems when they went to a press.  Went from a 13-point deficit to 2 in a matter of a couple of minutes.

If, we reasonably defend the 3 then I think we'll be in very good shape tonight.

GT 75. SJU 67.

We haven't been defending the three well. WV and Prov just missed open shots.

Tonight it comes back to haunt us.

We either beat G-town or should have the last few times. That was with Norm and company. Lavin and staff get it done. We win 81-76. 3-0!!

That's right, TONY!  I don't have a score for tonight's game, but I think we walk outta the Garden with a win.

Which one do you hate, Baldi? Chris Wright, right?

Jason Clark was straight up awful against Notre Dame. Ben Hansbrough used him like a drunk freshman toilet paper.

Ya Chris Wright blows, imo most overrated player in the nation(well next to Poison's favorite big man,Austin Freeman).  JT3 cant coach a lick either, he 'd get owned in the CHSAA

I am 100% positive we can compete with this team. Unfortunately I have a bad feeling about this.

Hoyas - 71
Johnnies - 70

Boy, were we all off. Cracking 70 points? What were we thinking?

Freeman was terrible. I don't know how that could be the pre season player of the year. That's just nuts.

Brownlee is better than him.

I was thinking for a while my prediction would be dead on but they didn't even get that high, thats the way a G'Town and SJU game should be played.
