St. John's won a game on Saturday it wouldn't have won last year. In fact, the Red Storm wouldn't have won the same game earlier this season.
But four years of hard knocks and the confidence instilled by a new coaching staff has St. John's believing in itself. The Red Storm blew a double-digit lead at Providence and fell behind late but rallied for a 67-65 road victory. Providence coach Keno Davis knew exactly why the Red Storm executed so well down the stretch. The Red Storm has experience. The Friars do not.
"We don't have a whole lot of room for error this year with being as young as we are," said Davis. "Most games in the Big East will come down to the last two or three minutes. It seems like every game I tune into comes down to where the other team has a chance in the last couple of minutes.
