Steve Lavin knows exactly when the St. John's University men's basketball team turned the corner.

The Johnnies were coming off embarrassing losses to St. Bonaventure and Fordham. In the latter, they squandered a 20-point second half lead.

Lavin, in his first year of what figured to be a reclamation project, had been struggling to connect with his senior-laden team. But as he reviewed the Fordham tape a light bulb went off.
