SNY Today
« on: March 02, 2011, 08:33:11 PM »
During the pregame they went over their picks for the BE season awards.  Here were their picks.

                                  Welsh                    Norm

Most Improved:          Hansborough          Brooks

Coach of the Year        Brey                      Brey

Player of the Year       Kemba                    Hardy

---  No way Norm was gonna give Lavin coach of the year.  Couldn't believe neither picked Steve. Both stated that Brey should get it because his team exceeded expectations.   Really?  St. John's didn't.   Amazing.

Wasnt Notre Dame picked to finish behind us in the Big East in the preseason polls?

In all fairness Brey has done an exceptional job as well.
Notre Dame is obviously going to lose in the first round of the tournament, but that's not the point.

They beat a lot of the same teams that we did. It's a tough call.
One can say we've got 9 seniors, but they've never been good until this season. Brey lost a former BE POY and his pg. Yet ND is much improved.

Personally, I give the award to Lavin. It's far more impressive to go from bad to great, than it is to go from good to great. There are a dozen teams that were good last year, and great this year.

I spoke with a friend of mine whose a ND grad today.  Even he said Lavin should get coach of the year, and national coach of the year.

Brey has done a good job.  Pitino has done a great job with that squad as well.  Hope Lav gets it though.

i dont think kemba or brooks should win be poy with the way their teams have been playing (lately for uconn).

i know its not an mvp award, but with the way hardy and hansborough have been carrying their teams, i hope it goes to one of those two.

I think Hardy and hansborough get co-POY.   I def think it gets split this year.

UL picked 11, ND picked 7, St. John's picked 6 (Pitino's vote bumped us up big time)

I think Boo is right. Uconn has really fallen lately. That will hurt Kemba.
He was awesome in the first half of the season but it was a pace he could not sustain. Hardy is hot in the second half, and that's what counts.
