I don’t believe it's a bogus excuse for him. The ineligibility of the players isn't the reason by itself or I would agree it may be bogus, but it is a factor. Lavin is the straw that stirs the drink. With his perceived health issues along with the ineligibility of the players in gave him reason for concern as it should; this is a big decision for him. Let Lavin come back healthy along with Pelle signing on and I believe he still signs with us.

It might not exactly be a bogus excuse, but I believe it is a very, insignificant reason.  I think it has more to do with Lavin's health concerns via some folks in his ear.  Not to mention, I don't doubt one bit LSU could be up to something.

Nevertheless, I'd still like to garner Gathers' services in the spring, if he hasn't had a total change of heart.  I think he's gonna be a monster on the blocks at the collegiate level.  IMO, he would be a consistant double-double guy in college.

Unfortunately, we're gonna have to wait it out for a few more months.   

It's a big decision for him.  A lot of things changed sinced he committed...let's show him some love and win him back.  We need him to start from day one!

I'm told there are certain member(s) in his family that just want to be sure/convinced he is making the right decision to leave the area.  As Coach Byrd says he "loves" Coach Lavin.  I think once Coach comes back, is coaching and out recruiting including perhaps a trip down to Louisiana later this eyar or next year, things will be OK.

 he did seem to love the staff.  Kid is a beast.  Him and Pelle are just what the doctor ordered

Oh, okay.  I guess once he receives the "go ahead" then he may recommit.  Hopefully, that is the case in the end.

I certainly can understand some concern by Gathers and his family about Lavin being cleared from the big C.  Gathers is/was coming to SJU to a large degree because of Lavin- if people he is around are throwing out to Gathers that Lavin may not be here, it would put some fear into Gathers and his family.  Certainly could be some "recruiters", from who knows where, whispering ugly nothings in Gather's ears.  Given it is his life and future he owes it to himself to be sure Lavin will be here-I don't doubt Lavin will be here, but my future is not riding on it. I also have heard nothing about Lavin's recent procedure that indicates he isn't progressing well.  In truth I want Gathers here but as long as Lavin is OK it's all going to be good-whether Gathers comes or not-hopefully he does end up at SJU of course.

Makes sense.  Quite frankly, I think the sharks had already been set loose.

My thoughts exactly.  The logic though is, if you are unsure and don't de-commit, technically other schools "shouldn't" contact you.  And if in the end you do change your mind, now you have to re-open your recruitment again.  Instead now he can openly check out other schools, go on visits, and all the other perks that come with opening up your recruitment.

I hope he goes to StJ, but if he doesn't, then best of luck to him ... except if he plays StJ.

This is the easiest cancer to beat for a man.  I know from experience and Coach Lavin had the same surgeon that I had 3 and a half years ago.  Results are great.  Coach should only be lucky to find a point guard with hands like our surgeon's.

Gathers just asked on twitter what time the SJU game was tonight.

Again not sure if he is in NYC or if he just plans on watching it on TV.
