First off, I know the word is to "relax" with the recruitment of Ricardo.  I understand that is based on the feedback this site has received from our posters following his recruitment very closely.

What I do not understand is Ricardo mentioning possibly naming his college in the spring.  Is he just playing with the media?

It would seem to me that a player with Ricardo's talent would commit earlier, say in the fall, so he could focus on his last year of high school ball.  And have some fun along the way!

Gathers needs to put in a ton of time at the line, because he might be leaving 5-6 points per game on the floor with his physical style of play.  His stroke didn't look too bad in the latest video.

If Ricardo comes to SJU and can just get his FT's up to 70%, he'll be a weapon.  With coaching and work, he certainly can.  First, let's get a commit.

At these events, the kids are bombarded with the same question over and over from fans and media.  It could be more to just dodge the question without really thinking about it.

In the beginning of last year the team was bad at free throws, With Lavin and staff, they overcame this deficiancy, and was good by midyear. No reason the staff cant do the same with Gathers.

Agreed.  As I pointed out when I first saw Gathers I saw the same spin issues I saw with Evans.  Staff corrected that in less than a year and Evans was servicable down the stretch from the charity stripe.  Plus in those recent videos Gathers had very good form and I think hit 5 of 6.

MJ, having seen Ricardo in person, is he closer to 6'8" or 6'6"?

"From Arizona, I've been talking to coach Pasternack," Gathers told PGU. "He's telling me they'd love to have me come into the program. I saw what they did with Derrick Williams so they could use me in the same way."
 
Pasternack, who was introduced as part of the Arizona staff this summer, has deep ties to the Louisiana area as a former University of New Orleans coach. Though Arizona had few ties to Gathers before Pasternack arrived, they now stand in good position with him.
 
"Arizona was always one of the top schools since the beginning for me, but they've come at me harder recently," he said. "Seton Hall, Arizona, Cal, LSU, Ohio St, and West Virginia have all contacted me recently."
 
"I think I'm going to take a visit (to Arizona) in August," Gathers said. "I'm going to get up to Oregon and Cal for unofficials too."

"The schools I've been talking to most are St. John's, Texas, and LSU," Gathers told PGU. "I plan on making a decision late September or early October."
 
"I'm looking for academics, playing style, and development in a school. The atmosphere and all that is important too," he said.

Forget showing Richardo the 118 degrees in August. We have had that heat already in July.  Show him the pictures of the two dust storms we had recently.  They were right out of the movie, the "Mummy".

My money is still on Coach Lavin to show Richardo the way.
