I agree, I still think Lavin will land him, but I'd rather he skip past Arizona and straight to a SJU commit...

In the past this would have bothered me more, but now I have full confidence that Lavin would probably replace Gathers with somebody of equal or greater talent...no worries here anymore. If he wants to go elsewhere so be it, Lav would recruit an equal replacement

"From Arizona, I've been talking to coach Pasternack," Gathers told PGU. "He's telling me they'd love to have me come into the program. I saw what they did with Derrick Williams so they could use me in the same way."
 
Pasternack, who was introduced as part of the Arizona staff this summer, has deep ties to the Louisiana area as a former University of New Orleans coach. Though Arizona had few ties to Gathers before Pasternack arrived, they now stand in good position with him.
 
"Arizona was always one of the top schools since the beginning for me, but they've come at me harder recently," he said. "Seton Hall, Arizona, Cal, LSU, Ohio St, and West Virginia have all contacted me recently."
 
"I think I'm going to take a visit (to Arizona) in August," Gathers said. "I'm going to get up to Oregon and Cal for unofficials too."

"The schools I've been talking to most are St. John's, Texas, and LSU," Gathers told PGU. "I plan on making a decision late September or early October."

Quoted as "looking at Acadmics"  but still considering Arizona?  What's wrong with this picture???  God help me, they kept all america Miles Simon eligible with a basket weaving class.   I'm not kidding.  It qualified him by fullfilling a history requirement - under Native American Studies.  It was a craft class bending twigs for an hour....

Gathers per Rothstein, has named a top 4 of LSU, SJU, Arizona and Syracuse.

Someone should tell Gathers that the City of Syracuse received more that 15 feet of snow last winter
and that Jim Boeheim will not be his coach for all 4 years.  Boeheim will likely retire after the 2013 season.

15 sounds low actually.

UA has a top academic program.  And that is from first hand experience. How they handle students on sports teams is another story.

I still cannot see Ricardo coming to the desert and losing all that glamor from playing in NYC and MSG.  Nor can I see him going to Syracuse.  There was a time when we would have automatically lost any recruit Coach B. would be interested in.  I still cringe when I think of Coach B. calling Coach Roberts one of the best coaches in college basketball.  I took that to mean, keep Coach Roberts so I can steal all the NY-NJ recruits I want.  Ditto to Coach C at UConn!

By the way, it looks like KA will make his college decision before Ricardo on 9/20.  When KA joins Coach Lavin' quest for the gold, that should encourage Ricardo to announce that red is his favorite color shortly after.

Blake Keathley who covers U of A out in Tucson got two different top 4's from Gathers out in Vegas in a matter of minutes.  First was SJU, LSU, Arizona and Syracuse with Oregon and Texas trailing.

Then a few minutes later changed Texas with Syracuse.

I, recall not seeing one Texas coach in the gym during Ricardo's first game at the Peach Jam.  Not one!  I kinda figured at that point that Texas felt they might be out of it.

I, intended to quote Gumby's post.  LOL   I guess old habits are hard to break.  Many of us were so used to losing out on recruits for years that it's still embedded in some. 

Actually, I'm not really worried when we go up against heavy hitters or anyone--for that matter--any longer.  I'm sure we're not gonna nab everyone we target, but I feel confident more times than not that we're gonna land said player. 

Relax, Gumby!  We'll be fine.

I'm assuming your post was tongue in cheek even though it was missing those good ole smiley faces and winks.  I was poking at you as well because I think we've talked about this specific issue before.

All signs are pointing to another amazing 2012 class.  We as fans can't hang on every word or list or order of schools a kid lists.  If things change for the worse you will get that sense from certain posters in the know.

So I will end with

We've been on him longer than most of these schools and unless he wants to stay home and play for LSU, I too am pretty confident Lavin will land him. Losing out has certainly become ingrained and it's hard to get away from, but it's changing fast.  Lots of action in the next 2-3 months.

I would love to get Gathers but would not loose a moment of sleep if he went elsewhere.
No doubt Coach Lavin would use the ship on a great JC player or an outstanding transfer or just another player who may not be as presently advanced but who has a greater upside. This Coach is the best recruiter we have ever had, by far, so there is nothing to worry about if we loose out on any recruit.

Do you really think Gathers believes HE'LL be there 4 years?   Most kids ranked this high rightfully believe they're one or two and done....
