So I just got back from Adidas Nations in Harbor City, Ca. I went for the morning session but ended up getting there late and missed the first half of all the games. Just my luck, KA appears to have sprained his ankle at some point and was on the bench in flip flops when I got there.
This may have been a blessing in disguise for me because I got to watch the entire second half of Ricardo's game where he played every minute for a Latin America team with a short bench. Overall, I was really impressed. He plays so hard and goes after every rebound like a man possessed. His team is not very talented and were going up against imo the most talented team in the tourney (USA 2012 Blue). He used mainly his face-up game and pick and roll to score around ~15 points in just the 2nd half. Not sure how many boards he had but I would say around 5 or so. Like I said, his team is not very talented and he was bringing the ball up at the end of the game, once USA pulled away. He shot 4 mid range jumpers and a three 2/4 from mid range and 0/1 on the three at the end of the game. Also of note, he made all 3 of his free throws, swishing 2, and his form did not look bad at all.
Gathers was guarded by Amile Jefferson most of the second half who is the polar opposite of Gathers body wise. He is thin as a rail and really did not do much from what I saw. I can why he rated highly, due to his long wingspan and appears quite athletic but he does not look like a 4 to me right now.
Other guys I saw that impressed were Purvis and Drummond. Drummond is a monster. He could play in the nba right now imo. Purvis is quick and finishes well. Unfortunately, Isiah Austin and Shabazz were also injured so they did not play. I think a lot of guys are spraining their ankles in these silly Adidas Crazy Light sneakers that they're all wearing.
I'm thinking about going back at 5 pm for the next session or either tomorrow or Monday for the championship. The weekend was supposed to be only press but they made a mistake and tweeted to me that public were allowed so I was allowed in. Will update further if I go back.
