Can we get Fairfield on the schedule more than once in a season?

That would be a nice look for Norm.

Nobody knows the C- talent in the metro area like Norm.

Hey FatherHsSpotinHell, that's not fair, Norm knows C- talent all over the country. Not just in NY. And truth be told, it's not just his terrible recruiting that sets his teams up to fail, his complete lack of coaching ability plays the biggest role in his failures.

I hope he comes back to coaching, and falls flat on his face. Then he can blame the Fairfield players, and credit Marist because they're a "great team"

He's not a home run, but consider that a number of guys he recruited were pretty good at the mid/ low major level.  He might have gotten those guys at a Fairfield level, and they would become stars/ solid rotation players there. Remember that Sean Evans and Paris Horne didn't have other big-time looks; I don't think Ced Jackson did either.

If he was only able to recruit MAAC level talent to the SJU, what's he gonna bring into Fairfield?

You can sell a Sean Evans on the BE.

Roberts is going to die a quick death in the MAAC-where there is less talent, and more parity.

I live near Fairfield. I hope Norm gets it. I'll go to some games and root wholeheartedly for him to do great.

...just not when they play us.

He's gotta take a job at a struggling program. At Fairfield he will be inheriting a team that was 25-8. He will look bad if the teams record dips below that...and as we know it will. What a downer for him to be replacing a coach who jumped to the Big East.

I would think Cooley will take his best player with him,Derrick Needham. Fairfield has 2 transfers eligible next season, Des Wade from Houston and Rakim Sanders from Boston College

Rakim Sanders transfered to Fairfield? Woa, that's shocking to me. Thought he was a high major talent.

Losing Needham would hurt, but they still got some very good MAAC players returning. Ryan Olander is a good big, 7 foot, his brother plays for UConn and Maurice Barrow from Christ the King.  Whoever gets that job is in good shape for his 1st season anyways, word has it Niagara's Joe Mihalic got a call

I know Norm didn't do a great job here, but why all the hate for the guy. He was always a great guy he's helped me out personally a few times, and I appreciate that. He may not be the greatest coach, but he's a good guy, and I don't how people hope he fails if he gets the Fairfield job...

If he was such a good guy why is it that in 6 years he never took responsibility for anything.
I've met him several times too.

In regards to one player who transferred out, Norm said "sometimes kids say they're going to do something, and they don't do it". Then he proceeded to explain to us how the Internet and facilities have ruined
recruiting at SJ's.

It was time to look at the man in the mirror. Norm never did. If he bombed with DJ, Hardy and Brownlee, how will he accomplish anything at Fairfield?

I saw Fairfield twice this year at Philly Hoop Group Classic. I like Needham he's solid. I wasn't overly impressed by Cooley as a game coach though.

As for Norm he's a hot name in the coaching carousel right now. I hear his name A LOT for coaching vacancies. I still don't think he hops right back into coaching unless he gets paid similar to what he was making at St. John's. I really think he's going to wind up at ESPN.

I agree w whoever said norm has gotta go to a losing program.  If he didn't win next year hed be toast at fairfield.  I wish norm the best, but low major coaches are often successful bc of one major factor...they can coach (see slice at manhattan despite being a great recruiter...and norm is not even a great recruiter).   If he goes back into coaching, it should be at a struggling low major or as an assistant at kansas.

I'm not sure about norm and espn.  Not sure he is as charismatic on camera as the coaches they usually have (lavin at one time, phelps, gottfried, etc)

I think I read somewhere that 26 coaches jobs opened up, with only 3 filled so far

More jobs will open up as a result of guys taking other jobs. Anderson leaving Mizz for Ark, whoever fills Georgia Tech & NC State will most likely open up more good jobs.
