Keeping track of late transfers...
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:37:05 AM »
The staff probably has no interest, but figured I'd put this one out there. Arizona has more players than schollies (and got docked one a year or so back for a violation that Lute Olsen did). Two players who might be free - guard Daniel Bejarano & center Alex Jacobson. Just as an FYI. Alex Jacobson is 7'1". But he played sparingly for the Wildcats.

http://azstarnet.com/sports/basketball/college/wildcats/article_6bf3969e-6c71-50de-949f-59ef9cbdce01.html

The Arizona Wildcats' scholarship disparity shrunk by one Monday, when Daniel Bejarano announced he would transfer after playing sparingly in his first year.

Bejarano, a 6-foot-4-inch guard, will continue spring workouts and will leave in good academic standing, UA coach Sean Miller said in a news release. He has not chosen a new school.

The guard's departure shrinks the Wildcats' roster to 13 scholarship players for the upcoming season - with room for only 12 because of NCAA sanctions.

Presuming recruits Josiah Turner, Nick Johnson, Sidiki Johnson and Angelo Chol enroll, the Wildcats would need one more scholarship player to leave or change his status.

Alex Jacobson is on track to graduate this semester and could therefore play immediately elsewhere, and fellow center Kyryl Natyazhko could play professionally overseas. Or another rotation player could leave, seeking increased playing time.

Would take 7'1 from UA for one year since we will have at least 2 open schollies anyway provided that is if he can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I would consider this kid for sure.  If he can play right away and only uses up a schollie for one year what is there to lose?  Even if he stinks he is great to have for practices.

Well, it's not like the staff would have to do a lot of research - Mike Dunlap was his coach for a year at Arizona.

For 1 year only, immediate eligibility, its a no brainer if he was interested.  He's a 5th year senior (injury redshirt as a frosh).   He came out of perennial California State champion Mater Dei High.  He put up 13pts 9 rebs 3 blocks as the starting center on a state title team.   Sounds like modest numbers, but the REST of the Mater Dei front line was McD All American Taylor King, McD All American David Wear, and McD All American Travis Wear....His oncourt contributions might be modest, but on a team with 9 rookes and no seniors, a 5th year Senior, one WITH NCAA Tourney Experience  - he's been to an Elite 8 and a Sweet 16.

Played the most minutes the year Dunlap was on staff.

Just saw on Twitter though that Robert Goff was let go of his LOI from Oklahoma.  6'9 250.  He was getting a lot of pub early in the year.  Pre-season JUCO AA.

*And sadly supposedly its academics and he probably won't qualify for D1 according to JUCO Recruiting Twitter.

kob, what is the status of Omari?  Is he on scholarship at K-State or walking on or even at K-State at all? Will he play this year? I haven't heard anything on him recently but I certainly hope he is successful wherever he is and wish him the best. He has potential, it's too bad things didn't work out here.

This article has a little blurb at the bottom that says Omari spent last year at Cloud County Community College, and is still committed to play at Kansas Stat this year

Omari's not official to K State yet but I think he said (via Twitter) he sent in his papers.

I bs with Omari once in a while on Twitter - he misses back home, wished he could have been with the guys this season, but he seems to be glad to get ready to play for the crazy Cuban
