Polee transferring to move closer to home

i personally will miss polee a great deal. i think he could have been real good by his senior year. as to next years team ,i think they might be a lot better alot quicker than many of you think. the coaching staff really showed me something. i think its safe to say that everyone of our guys last year played better than in past seasons, i think lavin and company can turn these freshmen into juniors right quick.

Polee jumped over kids in HS.  You can't do that in the BE.  He isn't nearly as refined as the guys coming in.  We need to get accustomed to having better players than we're used to.  If Polee stuck around no question with this staff he would have improved.  But other factors arose.

Polee committing to Lavin so soon after getting hired ( and being a west coast kid ) reinforced Lavin as a top recruiter after the long layoff and I think helped us create our new aura of not being a local school or East coast school anymore.

My feeling is that Polee's departure will prove to be more beneficial to the team than it will to him.

When you see Sampson, Pointer, Amir, Pelle and others leap, you won't miss much.

Positive spin:  Polee leaving opens up lots more minutes for Sampson, Harkless, pointer and Garrett across the board, and relieves a logjam and creates a happier roster overall. 

This move will work out for both sides.  Polee will get the playing team he needs (and his dad wants him to get) and the more highly touted recruits Lavin has brought in will get more minutes.  Short term it hurts the team a bit since Polee would have likely improved, but long term (i.e. not next year but afterwards) this is a big deal...Lavin can bring in someone else with that scholarship now, someone who could easily be a better player than Polee.

I think Lavin said that this would be the youngest team ever to take the court.  He also said it's going o be the toughest coaching year in his career.  He is right, but the kids coming in are talented and play hard.  I don't think we'll be a top 5 team this season, but I think we'll be an NCAA bubble team.

I think the only SF a lot more refined would be Harkless (by a mile), but I think Sampson has him beat by a slight bit as well.  Garrrett and Pointer are really 2-3's so it is not a completely fair comparison.  I just hope whoever takes his place will hit the glass.  Sampson looks a little bigger in height and weight.

What position you play is mostly defined by who you can defend  and not so much what you can do on offense.  I think Mo wills struggle defending smaller two's, but offensively he's going to be a nightmare matchup for any two.

Agree with you on Moe's skills.

I can't agree with your statement that defense defines your position.  Basketball is offense and defense.  Half and half.  Half the time Moe can be a mismatch in our favor while the other half he can be at a disadvantage playing the two against a smaller guard.  So he's a 3

West coast rumor on Dwayne - his dad and advisors (and perhaps himself) supposedly feel he needs a redshirt year to bulk and strenghten up, as he will continue to play the 4 in college.   Problem with redshirting at SJU would be that after sitting out, he'd be thesame class as the 3 frosh who'll likely play his position this year, and instead of the rotation advantage of being the returnee, he'd essentially b e trying to take minutes from incumbants.   Transferring essentially would give him that redshirt year, while allowing him to pick a situation where he'd likely get more floor time in 2013....

Makes sense.  But the father and advisors should have realized it last year instead of wasting a year now.

This is no rumor...Dwayne Polee slacked off big time any time it came to hitting the weights. I don't want to crush the kid, I wish he was still here but maybe he pulls an Omari Lawrence and learns from what he didn't do in his freshman year.

BTW Mo Harkless has put on 15lbs since high school season and plans to put on 15 more by September. Not bad weight either, counts his calories, works out religiously, looking to model himself after Wesley Johnson.

I've noticed Sampson seems to be bulking a bit too.  Guys like Pointer and even Harrison are pretty well put together even now.  Pelle needs strength for certain.  God's Gift needs little more than he has already.
