I don't know what the future holds for young Mr. Polee but I do know that Evans was a vastly superior player THIS YEAR and didn't play enough for whatever reason. Whether it was his fault doesn't really matter and to his credit, Lavin did rectify the situation and openly expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. I really doubt that you'll hear him say the same about Polee. The kid has a long way to go and crapping out at the first sign of a little competition wasn't the best way to start. He's gone and that's all she wrote to me. I'd rather read about guys like Geno, Glover and Bootsy etc. who gave it up for SJU.
Lavin didn't rectify the situation, Evans did by doing what the coaches wanted him to do. Once he did that, he earned the playing time. If he had done that from the beginning, he would have gotten the playing time you feel he deserved. That is on him.
BINGO, You hit the nail on the head 85.
Wrong - What actually happened is that Mike Dunlap went to bat for Sean and said if he was in a dark alley somewhere the guy he would want with him was Sean Evans. Do you really think he would have said that if Sean was dogging it in practices? Dunlap is a taskmaster of the highest order and he went to bat for the kid. Then amazingly the minutes came and the production did as well. If it weren't for that he would have spent the whole year getting splinters. The kid needed someone in his corner and that's the main reason I kept posting about him. To this day I believe it was the right thing to do and for sure nobody else was willing to do it. Now to still be getting knocked and insulted for it truly sucks. You want to knock Sean and/or me at least get your facts straight. Bingo yourself.
Bobre you and I will agree to disagree but I prefer to go with Sean Evans version of the facts and not some hypothesis.
The facts I stated appeared in the Newsday before Redmen.com went down. Mike Maher was kind enough to PM me when it was printed and it did fill in some blanks as to Evans' last season. This is reality, NOT hypothesis. Before you restrict yourself to Sean's "player speak" please consider the situation he was in and his desire for playing time. I DO have a copy of the article by the way and it is totally accurate. It's tough to get because it requires a Newsday subscription. My son has media connections however, and got it for me. It was also discussed on Redmen.com before it went down. I know the truth hurts sometimes, especially when I'm the one who is telling it. Don't really care whether you agree but you may run into someone who read the article, knows the truth, and look dumb if the topic comes up. Bingo to ya! Bobre.
I read the article also and recall what it said. Sean is quoted in the article as not buying into the new regime and not doing what they wanted. He is also quoted as saying he thought of transfering. Dunlap stayed on him, used the carrot and the stick method and got him to get with it. Evans will go to bat for him because of that. Again, once he brought into what they wanted, he got more playing time. If he had done it from the beginning, he would have gotten more minutes earlier.
So you think Dunlap came out with that statement out of the clear blue about a player who wasn't doing what he was supposed to? Does that make any sense whatsoever? What's obvious between the lines was that Lavin wasn't sold on Sean from the getgo with the JBs and Polee available. He talked with him about transferring the same way he did Stith. Both decided to stick it out. The problem was that Sean had had a lot more success and PT under Roberts. It's easy to see why he was taken back after starting 73 games. Can you really blame him for that? So Sean found himself between a rock and a hard spot with Dunlap, who stuck his neck out, and Lavin. He had to take some of the blame to smooth things out. If you recall we kind of stunk it up vs St. Mary's, Fordham and St. Bonnies so Sean wasn't all that wrong early on. He also had no part in those losses. We got going when Lavin began starting Hardy and Horne instead of Boothe and Stith.
The rumors about Sean not buying into the system began before the season started and frankly he was right and I agreed with him after the Fordham game. Then the changes were made, the Dunlap thing went down and Steve publically blamed himself for some of the crap. He also followed up by awarding Sean the game ball after his nice 10 minutes vs Duke. First time he had ever done that and IMO a little acknowlegement that he had been wrong about Evans. Anyway that's the way I saw it. I'm kinda surprised that you read the article and still thought Sean was dogging it early. Dunlap just isn't the type to go against his boss and back a loser.
