Georgia Tech Transfer Oliver Mulling Big East - Zagsblog
« on: June 18, 2011, 04:06:02 PM »
We are listed.  Not sure how interested we are (or should be).  Was ranked 125 coming out of high school.  He is a 2/3 is sounds like.  From Jersey but finished at Oak Hill.  Didn't have the most impressive list of schools offer out of high school (Pitt was the top).  Seems like he might be better suited at A10 level.  Anyone ever see him play?

Georgia Tech transfer Brian Oliver is mulling several Big East schools in the Northeast.

Seton Hall, Rutgers, St. John’s, Syracuse and Georgetown, along with Temple, La Salle and Missouri have expressed interest in the 6-foot-6 sophomore, his mother told SNY.tv.

“He’s finishing summer session 1 right now and is going to take some visits after he gets home,” Zena Oliver said by email.

A Glassboro, N.J., native, Brian has four officials remaining.

He averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last season and dropped a season-high 32 in a loss to Syracuse and 28 in a win over Virginia Tech.

He missed the final eight games of the regular season with a broken thumb, and then opted to transfer after the coaching change that brought in former Dayton coach Brian Gregory.

He would have to sit a year per NCAA transfer regulations.

I missed that part. Sorry. If he's 6'6 then good luck to him somewhere else.

He's apparently the only kid in D1 without a sick relative back home.

Perhaps Coach Lavin thinks (or knows) that some of our small forwards won´t be here much time.

Nah. Just cause a kid list us, dont mean the attraction is all mutual.

Exactly.  Momo had interest from SJU because he could possibly play next year.  Harrow was a target because he played a need position true PG and was considered at one point as an elite PG prospect.

Oliver is a nice player but not sure if their is real interest.

Oliver's not even that nice a player. Good floor stretcher, and you could write off his poor shooting last year to a team-wide Georgia Tech allergy to getting the ball in the basket... but this one's a yawner.

Would not be surprised if he landed at George Mason under his old coach Paul Hewitt.

Make some since both regionally and that he has a prior relationship with Hewitt.

I don't see Oliver as an answer either. I watch him play vs. Terps and a few other games, and he wouldn't add that much more to the Storm's SF slot.  Maybe a solid guy off the bench.

Oliver’s mother Zena said Tuesday. Connecticut, Georgetown, St. John’s and Syracuse have also indicated interest.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

good call - I'd rather have him.  Amazing that Anderson and the AD tried the bush league move of not granting a release for months.

His dad is rumored to hate black coaches. Not sure if that includes assistant coaches.

woah - that's probably bb fodder.  I would think Pelfrey's system is much slower than Anderson's run-n-gun until ur done...but I haven't read that rumor yet...
