"WILL THE third time still be the charm? That's the hope.
Only one of Tuesday night's four PIAA basketball semifinals involving District 12 teams will be played in the city, and it will feature a pair of Public League powers that split their first two matchups.
With a spot in Friday's Class A state final in Hershey on the line, Roberts Vaux will duel with Math, Civics and Sciences Charter at 6 p.m. at Ben Franklin High.
Meeting No. 1 took place Jan. 24. MC&S won, 74-70, in overtime, as center Quadir Welton (Saint Peter's signee) mixed 14 points with 19 rebounds, and guard Shafeek Taylor tallied 15 of his 24 points in the final 12 minutes.
On Feb. 16, in the Pub's A final, superguard Rysheed Jordan fueled Vaux' 62-61 success with 29 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. (His totals in the first clash: 33, 11, two, three.)
Also Tuesday night, Imhotep and Archbishop Carroll will participate in different AAA semis, and St. Joseph's Prep will do battle in AAAA."
