great comeback Baldi...  ::)

Thanks, worked hard on that. But seriously, Mcgarry has been ballin. Most improved player over the course of this season imo

Not necessarily disagreeing, but there are no teams that are focusing on stopping Mitch in their game prep.  POY in Burke, with two NBA wings on either side of him.  Lots of space to work with for the big guy.

Not minimizing his game, just pointing out that it makes his life a lot easier.  Once Harrison got the boot, everyone we played focused on Sampson.  I thought he handled it well, all things considered.

You guys can take what I say and spin it this way, or that way which are many times valid, but do you ever notice how far some people go to make excuses for this team including the coach? Top 100's are obviously good recruits, but a top 10 kind of guy is in a totally different realm than a #96 guy. Of course exceptions exist, but the rule remains. His reputation is a great recruiter...so why can't he bring us McD's? I want to start bringing in the bonafide big names. The can't miss guys. I want to see our recruiting classes in the top 15 without having to use an asteriks or hear people say "well we technically were, but...". Why can't we ever just have a top class with no "but" words mentioned? As I said, Providence did it twice already...we have NYC to sell, and supposedly a great recruiter. No more excuses.

He's had 2 recruiting classes here so far! First one was ranked #3 in the country. This year he has 1 ship , which just opened up!

There are what, 20 MCD AA a year?  Seriously dude, chill out.  You sounded like a spoiled, whiney child. I think you should take your own advice and find another avenue to throw your support behind.  Trust me, STJ isn't going to give you want you are expecting..

You are the only one putting asterisks and "buts" on these. Like boo said, maybe you wanna check out Kentucky.

Conveniently ignoring Providence and their ability to sign 2 MAJOR McD recruits as a worse program than us in a much smaller city with less resources and success.

 Ledo and Dunn?

Ledo didn't play at providence, and likely won't ever.

Kris Dunn averaged 5 points a game this year...

Don't give me labels, give me guys that can perform on the court.  Harrison > Dunn as a freshman and it isnt even close.

My bad. Thought this was the Rysheed Jordan thread but he has not been mentioned in the 30 new posts I have read. Less than 2 weeks to his decision date unless he pushes it back again. If we don't get him would like to bring in a specialist-shooter, rebounder, hustle guy or set up man.

Our two non-McDonalds AA's Harkless and Sampson won back to back Big East Rookie of the year awards.  Needless to say they deserved to be McDonalds All Americans as did Harrison.  Those guys don't deserve any asterisks.  They are bonafide blue chippers.  BTW, Rysheed Jordan is as good or better than half the guys I saw in the McD's game.  Might want to out an asterisk there too, but he is also a blue chipper whether you believe it or not.

Why wait? If Lavin doesn't get Sheed he sucks as a recruiter!  :)

This is what I mean...you can't play that game. You can't just make stuff up how you see fit when talking about McDonald's All Americans. Harkless, Harrison, and Sampson are not McD AA's. You can't just say "oh, well Harkless would have been had they known his real potential!". The fact is whether they panned out or not, Providence still landed 2 of them. That's the point I was making. We are above Providence in both importance and significance in basketball with many more resources. So why can't we? Maybe I'm going too rank crazy here...I know plenty of great players come from 3 star rankings not in the top 100. We really need to evaluate talent better to get our shooters.

I apologize for going off topic, not that it matters because this board is clearly the breakfast club jock wannabes and still has a high school mentality when it comes to treating people with respect. Anyway, getting Jordan is our priority, and we need to sway him from Temple. Find a way Lavin.

St. John's IS in a different stratosphere than UCLA. UCLA is a BCS school, has way more prestige than us both academically and athletically. Recruiting at UCLA is MUCH easier than recruiting at St. John's where we had 1 good year in the past decade and can't even come close to their history. If he is truly a great recruiter, let's see him get McDonalds AA's here at SJ. Providence did it...they got 2. Why can't we?

If they can get 5 star guys so can we. In the grand scheme of things Lavin is a good recruiter, but I'm not seeing that high major talent i.e. Big East POY guys. True, Harkless might have been if he stayed, but he is really the only true stud we have had here under him. Sampson is good but needs to get a lot better...he gets a ton of rim on many shots and has that awkward release. I guess what I'm saying is, where are the McD AA's and the 5 star top 25 guys?

Exactly, so doesn't that make the caliber of players brought in even that more impressive?

Also, Jakarr was much better then McD all american Kris Dunn this year. Truth be told Jakarr was a 5 star player. Jakarr was the best player at Brewster last year which included 5 star Mitch McGarry and McD AA TJ Warren. Nerlens Noel was probably the only player in New England better then Jakarr. McD all americans are biased & subjective just as ESPN & Scout services are.

I apologize if I sound like a jerk or a know it all, but some of your statements are ridiculous

After watching McGarrybin this tournament, I would completely disagree

I'm a huge McGarry fan, I was hoping we would recruit him. I was talking last year when they played together at Brewster

Definitely. STJ 2011 class > PC 2012 class and not even close so far. Oh and BTW Ledo wasn't an All American

Are we so sure he's not coming here?  Amir leaves an open ship a day or two ago and now Rysheed moves up his commit date?  Maybe just coincidence, but I'm not ready to concede just yet.

Hopefully Alford didn't tell him to commit by the 11th or UCLA is moving on.

I have absolutely no clue what he will do, but I do know that even if he commits here, at least one poster will complain that we only brought in one new player.

no one is complaining about lavin and his recruiting prowess...but even the best thoroughbreds racing in the kentucky derby need to be prodded by the jockeys.

that's what fans are supposed to do.

Boeheim said the other day that half of the McD's kids stink. He's right.

Sampson and Harkless were absolutely good enough to be a McD's kid.
Elijah Ingram was a Mcd's kid. He was lousy. Although still better than Geno.
