Really mad St Johns does not sell authentic jerseys
« on: October 16, 2011, 11:56:45 PM »
Are we the only ones in the big east with this being the case? I search ebay, and any other sites all the time for them and never find anything. All I find are the Chris Mullin Nike throwback jerseys for 140 bucks. I want the current jersey, not the one from 1985, and I don't like those old air jordan ones which are kind of ghetto. I noticed that the bookstore did actually sell the replica jerseys for a short time a few years back, but for some reason they stopped. What is the big hold up? You would think right as the hype begins for college basketball to begin, that there is huge demand from fans to buy jerseys. This is such a shocker.

There is no link, I was messing with you liny.  But I think they are waiting to see who on our team will be a premier player until they sell the jerseys.  Last year you could buy a DJ Kennedy jersey everywhere (Bookstore, online, carnesecca, MSG).

Heard that they've been ordered and the book store should have them soon enough.  Of course, like everything else, St. John's doesn't get it right.

There are plenty of other schools and teams out there to cheer for if you don't like the way St. Johns does things....

How is asking for memorabilia from your team too much to ask? The most you can get right now is a regular font "St. John's Basketball" with some screen printed basketball. It looks like the kind anyone can make out of their garage. Where are all the Nike ones? I think I saw 1 or 2 total. No Air Jordan stuff? Did they drop us? Every other major basketball team has plenty of memorabilia, St. John's is ultra conservative with it. That's why you don't see people walking around in St. John's gear in the metro area, but you see plenty of Cuse, Nova, GTown, etc. If you want to be NY's college team and get the fan base going, you have to get some nice jerseys, shirts, etc.

Jordan dropped us years ago.

You know how long it takes a jersey to be made?  On the quick side 90 days.  So 3 months ago they had to committ to making a jersey.  What if they didn't have a player number yet?  What if they picked Pelle, Sampson or Amir?  Imagine having 200 plus jerseys in the bookstore of a number for a player not even on the team.

They will get their merch figured out.  That I know.

Who says it has to be a player? Hell you can sell either customized jerseys with your own name and number, or just sell replica ones with just the number. This isn't the NBA, you don't need the names on the back.

Uh yeah.  Well customization requires a pretty big investment to to purchase an application machine.  And train people to use it.

As for the names well yes we all know you can't use a player name but you didnt see us selling #00 jerseys.  You saw Artest (15), then Cook (10), then Hatten (1), then Mason (2), then DJ (1).  All the numbers were associated with a player.

Moose, you are making it seem like I'm asking for an elephant to break dance and learn english. All I'm asking for is the STATUS QUO of other name brand schools in major conferences. We are not some little 2,000 person school. We have campuses in Manhattan, Staten Island, Long Island, Queens, etc. It's a huge school. In the best division in one of the best conferences for basketball. You are telling me we don't have the means to make jerseys consistently? Have you ever looked on ESPN.com? You can buy almost any school's jersey AND the shorts that go along with them. Granted they are very expensive, but people buy them. They should take a survey asking alumni and local fans if they would be interested in purchasing St. John's basketball memorabilia including game jerseys/shorts, etc. This is not rocket science. If enough demand is there which I believe there is without even taking a survey, you invest money to get the memorabilia, and you will make all your money back plus MUCH more in profits. This is not asking SUNY Purchase to put jerseys on sale. This is about St. John's, a historic and well-known local team.

St.John's has had some the ugliest and dumbest merchandise over the last 20 years.
Go to Zazzle.com, spell out St.John's Basketball on the front, put a number on the back. Done.

I'm answering your questions that is all. And I work in the industry and know very well what other schoos and ESPN.com and others are doing. I know there is potential and runway here and trust me they do as well. It will continue to improve as it did the end of last yr but you won't see the full effect immediately.

Poison, you can't create your own authentic St. John's jersey with the correct logo, color, number font and everything. If you can then prove me wrong...I will buy from you.

Just made a SJ basketball sweatshirt I think would look great take a look
