When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

A few thoughts (keep in mind it was D-II):

1) Phil Greene is good.  Man to think he was an afterthought.  Long arms and a better shooter then I thought.

2) Harkless is the goods.  Ron Artest clone.  Does everything well.

3) Forget the comparisons with Coker in terms of Achiuwa.  Kid is very athletic.

4) Love the up tempo pace, even with the short roster.

Ron Artest clone????? what?????  he plays nothing like Ron.  Ron was an intense player with a completely different game.  Mo Harkless reminds me of a Keith Wilkes...... very smooth with a decemt outside shot.

I think the important words were probably "does everything well," which would make him very Artest-like.

He doesn't play the same but seeing him physically on the court definitely looks like Ron.

The best part about his quote, is there is no way to tell whether hes talking about the man upstairs or himself in the third person (assuming god is a nickname of his).

St. John’s was missing its head coach and one of its assistants, but God was on their side.

God’sgift Achiuwa, a former JUCO star originally from Nigeria, was one of six players in double-figures with a team-best 21 points as new-look St. John’s beat Division 2 C.W. Post, 110-80, in an exhibition game at Carnesecca Arena.

Fans began chanting “God is on our side” during a first half in which Gift went 7-for-7 for 14 points, scoring on a variety of athletic moves near the basket.

“That really got me going because I believe in God so much,” Achiuwa said. “It was motivating.”

When Ron was a freshman he was not a tank.  Moe has bulked up considerably over the last year as I've seen him multiple times.  I wasn't an STJ fan when Ron was around but I recall seeing Ron in HS a lot and when I see Moe run around the court I see a bit of Ron.

Sure glad this isn't a blind man describing an elephant!    The two examples are either Ron Artest or Kieth Wilkes????   Trying to merge those two visions,  All I can picture would be a Laker SF.....Maybe they combine to form a James Worthy?

That was one of the first things I thought of.  He looks like Ron ... not necessarily plays like he did.  Although the charge he took looked very similar to a play I saw Ron make at UVA, where I thought he was gonna step on a guys chest on the way to the basket.

I was an sju fan when Ron was around.  He had a bigger torso than Mo.  Mo has maybe 3 inches on Ron.  Ron was a more physical player, Mo seems to be more of a finesse player, when compared to Ron.  Bottom line is we can compare these two from a skill and potential impact standpoint.  Just saying Mo's potentially the best freshman since Ron is a huge compliment.  There's one comparo I don't want to make.  Let's hope Mo stays around for more than two seasons.

The CW Post homepage has an actual Boxscore for the game.    http://www.cwpostpioneers.com/custompages/mbball/2012/exhibit1.htm

Most interesting to me, only 8 minutes PT to the scrubs (including Jamal!) and yet ONLY Nuri played 30 minutes (33 - thats less than Hardy averaged last year with a full roster!).    The others were all 24 to 28 minutes of action.   Barring injury, that's NOT a reciepe for fatigue....

Which tells me Dunlap is already testing a rotation system designed to avoid fatigue.

Couldn't watch the game last night, thank God for DVR.

Here are my observations

- The zone in the first half was good, nice rotation, and they were closing out quick.
- God's Gift in the first half, soo impressive with the offensive skills, very surprising, didn't think he would be able to score like that. He has a great post presence, strength is apparent, gotta see if he can post up and hit a 8-12 foot jumper.
- Nuri off the dribble is lethal, gets to the rim really well.
- Phil Greene is the shooter on this team, very solid stroke.
- Starting the 2nd half, I was wondering where was Harkless...and wow..there he is. Harkless was awesome to start the half with 8 points, getting rebounds. I didn't notice his size earlier but in the paint he is big, should probably play the 3 but he will have to do work down low at times.
- This team would benefit so much from having another guy the size of God's Gift. Hopefully Pelle is back.
- It seems like, at least for yesterday, there was an emphasis to get to the rim, not as much shooting, at least in the 2nd half.
- Greene is really impressive with his awareness and shooting, solid quickness as well, seems like a 5 tool player.
- Harrison seems to be a solid player, will be great off the bench
- Obviously it's going to be different against stiffer competition, but through this game, the zone was excellent, really didn't allow CW Post do much.
