It's one thing to have a 7 man rotation because out of your 12-13 scholie players you opt to run the 7 best-it's another when all you have to choose from is 7.  It goes beyond the game though, as I think of equal importance, and in some ways more so -it affects practices-players improve by playing the games but also by practicing against other quality players.  They practice every day and only play about twice a week.  To me it seems to follows that the hit on practice  translates to a hit in games. Just MHO.

Stith has played better than he is playing now. Booths for 3 years, had the same problems. Stith has to penetrate, and find other players. Watching him get stuffed was painful. But for the love of God, stop doing it. Run the offense.

I disagree that there's a lot of talent left.  And as much as I want Gathers on board, I'm not convinced he answers our problems.  He certainly will help on the boards, but from the video i've seen of him; he's a 6-7 PF, who doesn't have the wing span to be a true shot-blocker.   So even with him (and even Jakar) in the lineup we're putting out a front court that won't top 6-8.   That's still undersized.  It's an improvement over playing Mo out of position, but it's far from ideal.

Gathers doesn't have to be a "true shot-blocker" to help us on the frontline.  Sheesh!  Gathers could help us with rebounding; athleticism; and, scoring.  He's also a decent ballhandler.  He's a tad undersized in height, but he surely make up for it with his build and ability to carve out space for himself.   Besides, Gathers is a capable shotblocker.  He's not an elite shotblocker, but very capable.
Like DeJuan Blair? If so, one would have to be out of their mind not to want him

He's as close as he can get. I've noticed him right behind the bench at the CA games. I'm surprised he's not playing somewhere.

This staff is here and it's appreciated because players have improved. Part of their job is getting Stith to perform like Boothe did last year. He doesn't want to transfer. That makes him their problem, and their assignment whether they like it or not. Now they have no choice but to get him there.

Dont complain about Stith. Without him we would barely be able to put a team on the floor. He provides valuable backup minutes. Thankfully he didnt transfer. I would, however, like to get a PG for next year. To bad Jevon didnt work out.

The staff will do the best they can, but I know of only one person who turned water into wine. No knock on Stith, he's just a practice/role player at this level.

For arguements sake, is Stith as bad as David Cain was his junior year?

Greene had a good start to his PG career. 4 assists and no turnovers. He needs to get better but it could come.

Stith is struggling to see the floor and we have 7 scholarship players, I think that says it all. Do you believe Stith is as good as David Cain?

Not sure,.that's why I asked.

Cain's junior year numbers are similar to Stith's YTD.  Cain's junior year he was burried behind Buchannan.  Now you can argue the right or wrongness of that, but Louie gave Derek Brown and Cain back-up minutes at the two and one spots strictly to give Buchannan and Sproling a breather.  Louie had more usable bodies on that team.  The next year Mahoney was forced to start Cain and he had a break-out season.

Stith is in the same role his junior year.  He's getting minutes because we have nobody else at the 1-2, we don't have the depth that Cain's junior team had.  You think next year Stith's gonna average 11.4 ppg and 7.1 assists, because that's what Cain averaged his senior year?

Clearly Louie misjudged David's ability, Lavin hasn't misjudged Stith's ability.

Stith has been given opportunities to start. He's been given so many chances to perform. Cain was a backup. That wasn't a mistake. JB was a great point guard. And not much different than Erick Barkley. Not a fair comparison.

Stith has shown us so little that it's hard to fight for his cause on any level. He needs to play better. That simple.

Compare Buchanan's senior year stats 9.5 ppg and 6.2 apg with Cain's senior year stats, 11.4 and 7.1.  Buchanan was a walk-it-up point who fit Looie's slowdown style to a T.  The following year Mahoney turned Cain loose and he was a jet bringing it up and unafraid to go to the hole, sort of the anti-Buchanan.  The starters on Buchanan's senior year were Malik, Shawnelle, Sproling and Lamont Middleton.  The starters on Cain's team were  Shawnelle, Lamont, Derek Brown and Minlend.  Which starting five was better?  Yet both teams finished at 19-11.

Mahoney was named Big East Coach of the year that first season, largely because of Cain being the engine that made that team go.

So maybe Cain being a backup who saw limited minutes his junior year was a mistake.

Cain wasn't ready to start the year we lost to Tulane. Mahoney won the Coach of the year award in 1993. The next year they took it back from him.

Jason Buchanan was NOT a great point guard, was NOT in the same stratosphere as Erick Barkley and should NOT have been playing ahead of Cain.
