BOTTOM LINE: Lavin has put our program is a very bad position right now.  There is no debating this.  If you are happy that we are going to be throwing out 6 (maybe 7) scholarship players the rest of the season and get blown out in more than 50% of big east games, then more power to you.

Yeah....  We're all elated as the dork who somehow bagged the prom queen because we have 6 or 7 scholarship players suiting up the reminder of the season.  Keep posting gems.

Everyone who ever read BEB knows Realfan and I didn't get along (although ironically ever since Norm got fired he annoys me less. lol ) but I have to say that Illwill drives me nuts. And I mean freakin nuts. I'm sure he is a nice guy in person but he should be limited to 20 posts on a game thread

I'll say this- Will sometimes makes a good point, and there are days I agree with him.   His basic point that Lavin needs to take some, just some, of the blame for a few of the things that have gone wrong since April, isn't a completely absurd notion.   When he stakes out such an extreme position though, that's where he loses me.

I am not a fan of the "blame game".  What is just............is.

not having Lavin i think is the problem of all our current troubles.  with all due respect to coach dunlap, as smart and gifted as he is, he doesn't appear to be a player's coach.   player's came because of lavin.  lav's not here so i can see why guys like nuri and recruits would falter with commitment.

nonetheless, pretty f'uked up move by nuri.

I always thought Dunlap's people skills were suspect until he came out with that line about wanting Sean Evans with him in a dark alley and improving that whole situation.  Then again I never figured out who had the cockamamie idea that Sean couldn't play to begin with.  I suspect Dunlap had something to do with that too but I guess we'll never know.  Too bad he didn't have a catchy line for Nuri too.  I don't think it did either one of their careers any good.  I doubt it would have happened had Lav been healthy.  Well I sure hope Dunlap has enough smarts to keep his mouth shut for the rest of this crumby season at this point because one more defection should cost him his job too.  Time to start playing the walkons just in case.

Dunlap may be best suited for having the clip board and engineering the game plan. I have no reason to believe taht he isn't a great coach at practice. More than anything with need Lavin's personality and positive words on the sidelines. I don't think Dunlap goes anywhere and I really don't think any other players leave.

Nuri's character is clear.  When things get tough, he runs.  He quit on two high schools (lasted less than a month at South Kent) and has now backed out on two commitments to colleges. I'd never want to go to battle with a "kid" like this.

He was at South Kent?

Yeah, for less time than he was at St. John's.  Kid needs to check and see If he has a spine and a set of balls.

you know what they say, when the going gets tough, nurideen lindsay gets going.

Lindsey will be on the street. He's not good enough to justify an attitude problem.

That's a little harsh man, let's not wish catastrophe upon anybody.  We all have our issues hopefully he corrects his in the near future.

This thread seems to be serving a multitude of purposes.  One seems to be to bash Nuri and the other is to blame Coach Lavin for what is an ongoing number of reverses in our BB program.

We all knew Nuri came from a troubled past.  He has to be damaged some what with what  he has experienced in his short life.  What I really do not get is his note on the reasons for coming here- his mom's poor health and Coach Lavin.  What has changed in Nuri's mind? His poor play to date?

Blaming Coach Lavin for the rash of downwards turns we have experienced is fair to a point.  I am sure Coach Lavin would openly admit to these disappointments, as that is the kind of guy he is.  I think you stop blaming someone when they know they are to blame.  Afterall, it is not like when Coach Roberts never blamed himself after all of those winnable losses over the years.  As the head of our BB program, Coach Lavin is responsible for both the good and bad times.  He knows that.  So what do we accomplish by continually blaming him.  The answer is about a thousand more responses to this thread.

Our biggest concern centers squarely on Coach Lavin's health.  I think he probably should take the year off.  The timing and length of his operation concerns me, not to mention, his slow recovery.  He does not have a job where he can sit behind a desk all day.  He has to be active, both externally and internally.  Both of which are not ideal for his recovery.  I would rather write off the season (which may not be a stretch as it is) than to lose Coach Lavin.

Thank you Dr. Gumby. I prefer to believe in whatever decision Coach Lavin and his doctors arrive at in terms of how he handles the rest of this season.

What a mess!  In 3 months we've lost Pelle, Garett, Sampson, Lindsey and Gathers.

"You can't even make this stuff up" it's so incredible/abundant/brutal, yet it's reality.

Add in the destruction of the Big East Conference and we're in deep trouble goining forward right now.

I'm starting to get the feeling that we could be reading in the very near future (imo) that Steve Lavin is bolting as well.

We better start getting some commitments and fast because we're currently about 2-Centers and 6 players in total short next year on scholarship next season/2012-2013.

What a disaster this season is going to be.  We're look at about 11 wins in all if even that.

How quickly things have changed for the worse.

We have absolutely NO momentum right now going forward in this program.  Enough with spinning off every non-qualified recruit and/or transfer or de-commitment.  WE'VE SPRUNG A BIG LEAK AND WE BETTER STOP IT (ASAP).  How do you lose almost 50% of your scholarship roster in 3 months time?  I couldn't do that even if I deliberately tried to do it if you know what I mean.  INCREDIBLE!  "Murphy's Law" at it's very best and than some.

I predict it. If there is a good reason why he left, I'll stand corrected.

If it were just Lindsey than we could certainly live with it because that happens at a lot of schools at times.  However, I don't think I have seen a school lose (5) bigtime recruits in 3 months time in my entire life, it's unheard of (it's mind-boggling).  First it was Sampson, than Pelle too (just losing those two would have been losing plenty), than Garrett, than Gathers and now Lindsey.  WHO'S NEXT?  I kept relatively quiet through the first (4) defections, BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGHY ALREADY!  This is certainly not good and it better start changing direction FAST.  Lavin has lost control, and I don't know how and why he has but he evidently has.  You don't lose (5) players in 3 months just by chance.  SOMETHING IS WRONG!

Kansas had 3 top 150 recruits declared ineligible this season.  And their class was not 8 or 9 deep.  Imagine losing upwards of 75% of your class.

I forgot to mention Polee too.  UNREAL!  It seems as if the devil themself couldn't have planned it any better or so it appears.  I don't care how optimistic you are, because at this point you have to be in COMPLETE-denial to think that there's nothing to worry about AND TO THAT I SAY THIS. >>>>>  "Ignorance/indifference is bliss" because if you care enough and are wise enough or realistic enough than your very concerned right now.

I guess you have never come back from a serious injury or health issue.  I have and I know way too soon.  We tend to do crazy things like that.

There is no question that Coach came back too soon and I would bet before his doctor's okay.   Visiting Sampson over those two days was above and beyond. That is the type of guy he is.

As several of the previous posters have mentioned, Coach Lavin is our future.  Once he is fully recovered, he will turn around the hard times we are currently under.
