Fordham - Pregame Links

As out-of-the-blue as the news seemed to everyone else, Nurideen Lindsey’s departure was equally as unexpected to his teammates.

“It was a total surprise to us,” said junior forward God’sgift Achiuwa. “We never expected one of our teammates to leaving, knowing the condition we’re in now.”

And “the condition” went from short-handed to almost historically short-handed, with only six scholarship players remaining in the regular rotation. Against Fordham on Saturday, it is likely that walk-on-turned-scholarship-player Jamal White could see his first primetime minutes of the year.

But help is on the way.

Amir Garrett is reportedly in New York and his academic packet has been submitted to the NCAA Clearinghouse for review. He will not be eligible to play on Saturday against Fordham.

Head coach Steve Lavin's St. John's basketball team (4-5) returns from the road and an 11-day break for exams as the Red Storm meets Fordham (4-5) on Saturday -- renewing one of the most-frequently contested rivalries in St. John's 104-year program history -- as part of the 2011 Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival. St. John's takes to its home court in midtown Manhattan to face the Rams at 2:30 p.m., following a noon Holiday Festival contest pitting Rutgers against Stony Brook as part of the new, single-day event format. Both games will be televised live on MSG+, as Mike Crispino and Brendan Brown call the action with reporters Don La Greca and Jon Rothstein. The matchup can be heard live on the official radio flagship of St. John's Basketball, Bloomberg Radio 1130-AM, Sirius Channel 113, XM Channel 190, and on RedStormSports.com (subscription), with veteran announcer John Minko and "The Coach" Tim O'Toole as the analyst.

If elected mayor, the first order of business would be to hold the MTA accountable.

The second would be to mandate that St. John’s, Fordham, Hofstra and Manhattan play a tournament each year at the Garden.

There are bigger fish to fry, of course, but in my small corner of the court, this is huge.

I can remember fighting my way into Rose Hill to cover the Rams and Jaspers do their Bronx version of West Side Story.

I can remember the smile on Jay Wright’s face when the Dutchmen, as they were still called back then, beat St. John’s for the first time since cable TV.

St. John’s has been through a bunch of changes since it last played, a Dec. 5 road loss at Detroit. The Red Storm’s thin ranks grew even thinner when starting point guard Nurideen Lindsey surprisingly left the team last week.

Freshman Phil Greene is expected to pick up most of his minutes at point guard and freshman D’Angelo Harrison also may be playing minutes at that spot when the Johnnies (4-5) face Fordham (4-5) at 2:30 Saturday in the second game of the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival. Rutgers (5-5) takes on Stony Brook (3-5) in the noon opener.

Here are three things to watch for when St. John's (4-5) takes on Fordham (4-5) on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, in the second game of the MSG Holiday Festival.

Tip-off will be at approximately 2:30 p.m., following Rutgers vs. Stony Brook, and the game will air on MSG+.

When they is like 2000 peeps in the Garden today, y'all really gonna be advocatin for this Lenn?!?

Combined record for the teams is well below .500.

Cant blame STJ fo the sked since its packed wit powers. But today at the Garden is hella lame.
Parking only for NYCHA permit holders.
