St. John’s won’t get away with this anymore.
Continuing this season’s trend of trailing against inferior opponents, the Red Storm fought back from a 12-point, second-half deficit to pull out a 66-61 win in the final minute over Texas Pan-American last night at Carnesecca Arena.
Come Tuesday against Providence, the Big East season begins. Superior athleticism won’t carry the Johnnies anymore.
“I know we’ll be all right,” said freshman guard D’Angelo Harrison, who had 21 points and seven rebounds. “People are going to think we’re not ready for the Big East, but . . . I think we practice harder than any team in the country. I feel like that’s going to pay off. We’re always going to play hard, we’re going to play tough and we’re not scared of nobody.”
