I dont see the big deal. In this sport its important to keep a high profile especially as a coach. Future players are watching the game and get to hear Lavin share his thoughts. It may not help but with the way coach communicates it certainly wont hurt. Unlike our previous coaches, players all over the country know who Lavin is the minute he walks into a gym and realize that he is a big time coach. And even though he isn't coaching games, he's dropping by for 5 minutes keeping his name out. I'd rather have him on the sideline but while he is recovering its a cool way to hear his thoughts

was this thread even necessary?

should i start one called "steve lavin's diagnosis"

and have the first line of that thread be: "of the st johns games thus far"

because thats seriously the type of thread that baldi always seems to post.

This is such BS.  Everyone talking like they know what he is going through.  Get over it.  He has had a MAJOR surgery.  He has both physical and psychological issues to deal with during his recovery.  I was personally shocked to see him on the sidelines when he first came back as I expected at least a 3 month recovery.  He likes to squat while watching; he has major stitches that can't take the stress and could probably have done some damage and slowed the recovery.  He did not have laproscopic surgery which makes healing easier but such surgery is not 100% certain of getting all the cancer.  He had a great surgeon and had the time to get the cancer.  If it was a life/death, do it now moment, he would have had a different surgeon (such as Dr. Lapore at NYU).  Coach chose Dr. Scardino because he is a superb surgeon ; so good that he has a "waiting" list for his services.

As to talking/texting on the phone, Coach loves to talk.  Remember last year and the stories of how many cell phones he went through.  I am happy he is keeping up with his assistants and players.  If he was a lawyer, he would be doing the same; any person with the same condition would long for the outside contact and do the same thing.

Also unless I am wrong I do not see anyone else having commited? I am not saying that the calls are to blame, but I certainly don't see any proof that they are helping.

^I am sorry to point this out. However, the comment above is the prime example of how most people want "instant gratification". Because they don't see immediate results from something, they think it doesn't work and want to throw it away.

In my opinion, I believe the other coaches that are competing for the same recruits we are, are trying to exploit the Lavin situation and make a big deal out of it so they can attempt to take advantage of the situation. Therefore, like some of the posters have said, Lavin getting on the phone is basic PR 101. He wants to assure everyone that he is not leaving and he is working his way back to coaching the team.

If coach is calling into games still in February, then I'm going to get sick of it.    But for now, it's good PR - shows that he's at the helm of the program, and honestly - it gets us some good press during games when otherwise we're not giving the announcers alot of good things to say about us (Detrioit, UK).

Nor do I have ANY problem whatsoever with coach out recruiting.  1) That's what his doctors say he is capable of.  I won't second guess them.  and  2) Recruiting is our biggest priority right now.    In the long run a win/loss to Providence doesn't mean a thing if we don't have a C/PF/and pg to suit up next fall.

Stith has such a strong reputation for being a hard worker. It's odd that he's such an awful player.

What a wasted opportunity by a kid who had overcome so much adversity and seemed to be heading in the right direction.  A nit of patience and he would have benefitted so much from the coaching.  Oh well.  Unfortunately, everytime I go to my fridge and see the magnetic schedule, i am reminded that he is no longer here.

can we implement a system where if you make enough stupid comments that you get suspended from this site for a couple days?  it seems to me more often than not baldi and some others repeatedly make stupid comments, i think they should be punished for it. just a suggestion.

I dont want to get into an arguement again over this, but what is stupid about my comment?
