5 Recruit Predictions
« on: January 02, 2012, 03:02:55 AM »
In the last interview Lavin had, he mentioned that the team is planning on signing 5 recruits during the spring. I would like to see what everyone's prediction is on which 5 we get.

I don't know about all 5 but I think we will land Jakarr Sampson.  I think he has a lot of links with current players and likes the staff a lot.  He's built for this style of play and I think he's far from lost.  I haven't seen any other schools really come to the forefront with his recruitment.  Still like our chances with him a lot.

I also think that we're still in good with Gathers, but to have a chance to land him, Lavin will have to come back relatively soon and in good health for the remainder of the year.  We will have to fight off a lot of other unsavory characters for Gathers as well.

No idea about Obekpa or others.  I predict we'll hear some other names in the mix sooner or later though.

1st- we need 6+ recruits not 5.
We saw 1st hand what happens when you dont fill up your roster.
I expect/hope 1-2 might come from JUCO ranks.

I'm VERY VERY concerned that needing 6- we had NONE sign early.
If we need 6- we should be in the running/listed with 15+
Scout has us listed with only 3-4
we need 3 bigs.  We need 2 pgs.

At this point, I would guess that at least 3 kids who come next sept.- we've not even discussed yet ?

We only have room for 6, not 6+ at this point, but we dont have to fill all 6 this recruiting class.  My guess is that we fill 5 and save 1 for 13' where we are strong with a lot of kids.  Forget who scout has us listed with.  Most of those listings are totally outdated and not accurate.  That said, I too am concerned that it is a bit quiet with us needing a lot of players.  I'm not sure where they'll come from either.  I dont doubt the staff has a few Phil Greene types that are real good players but not at the forefront of recruiting circles.  Will certainly be interesting leading to the spring period, that's for sure.

That would be more than fine.  Obekpa, Sampson and any PG alone would be excellent additions that would create a dominating frontline and add guard depth.  We have 6 ships but as few as 3 good additions could make us very, very good.

I think we're in great with Lawrence, Sina, Jordan, Galan, Wainright amongst others for the 2013 class.

I don't think we get a pg(unless juco) in this class. If Lavin gets 3 recruits who can contribute right away, good to go

Agreed.  I have no problem with a JC PG either BTW.  It actually might be the best option for us because we'll probably try to land 2 guards in the 13' class from Jordan, Sina, Galan and others.  A JC PG would be fine providing there is a worthwhile one out there.  Lavin says he's giving out 5 so we'll see.  I'd still love Gathers here as well.

Yeah, maybe not. I think we'll land one of them though.  I don't know where the 5 or 6 recruits will come from?  Most top 150 kids off the board and it's been quiet with the ones we have been mentioned with.  Gathers and Sampson are de-commits.  When Lavin says he's bringing in 5 or 6 I'm assuming he's counting on at least 2 or 3 coming from the Wood, Gathers, Sampson, Obekpa group.  I have little doubt that we're involved with more than at, but I haven't heard much to this point.

I predict we get up to 11 and go with a 4 man class in 2012 although it could be a 5 man class if Moe declares after his soph year.

Sampson or Gathers
Obekpa
Wood
Juco or transfer PG or another 4/5

Ted, you are the closest here so far:)
As for Moe, PLEASE stop with the NBA talk!! I know Moe and he will be the last person to tell you he is anywhere near being ready for the NBA! Personally, I think by the end of his junior year if he gains 20 lbs, and believe it or not, he may actually grow another inch, he may be ready but the coaches have been trying to make him mentally more aggressive but his personality is very conservative.....no tats, no bullshit....just an all-around great kid.

I truly hope that Moe stays three years, he will be truly ready to play in the NBA and will have two years of NCAA tourney exposure under his belt in 2013 and 2014. One thing about Moe is that he has good people in his ear and is going to make the right decision when he is ready.

We don't need a star studded recruiting class for 2012-2013. We need one blue chip big and rotation guys. With some size our current core could compete right now.

We are going after some unreal talent for 2013 and beyond. no scrubs. As for right now, had we had Karr and Nuridee not self-destructed, this team would have done some damage and be borderline NCAA. Unfortunate that winning 12 games now is the only outlook with 5 freshmen and a JC playing 98% of the minutes. Next year, if SJ is not top 5 in the Big East, I would be shocked.

You also forgot to mention Pelle in the equation with Sampson and Lindsey, Bum.   Overall, I agree with your post.

By the way, I'm still around.   ;)   Check your PM.

if lavin returns this season all the dominoes will begin to fall.
One of Sampson, gathers, opekba will commit and two more will follow. I think well jump quickly on some de-commits in the spring, as well as some late bloomers

Good take on the de-commits.   This year especially looks like there could be a HUGE coaching turnover at the end of the year....

crgreen:  Do you mean huge coaching turnover here or at other schools that gives us a better chance with the de-commits?
