Fuquan Edwin is a prime example of why finding local players who are marginal Big East talent can work out. He'll be a nice 4 year player at Seton Hall

No offense to the FE, but was you sayin this after FE went 0-11 against the Cuse last week?

I'll take his 13.5 points a night.  Right now, we have 2 guys who are capable of that

He averaged half that as a freshman.   All our guys are freshmen and we have half a roster.  Some people just don't get it.  People don't understand how difficult it is to tackle this season with 7 guys and almost all freshmen.  It's daunting.  I think we're doing more than an admirable job.  This team has a lot of talent there.  They're just young and a horribly thin roster.  It shows in the W/L column as well as having some sputtering nights on offense and defense like we did last night.  We essentially have a 7-man high school team out there.  We're not doing badly considering the circumstances.  Add 5 more guys and a year under these kids belts.  Nobody will want to play us next season.  Like I said before.  This season might be one of the roughest we will have in the Steve Lavin era moving forward.

We can't hit the side of barn right now.

By know means am I saying Edwin is a #1 option. But I think Lavin should grab a local recruit or 2 (that is eligible) who will come in and contribute for 4 years and play with a chip on his shoulder. Edwin is a great example. Lavin made a huge mistake by taking too many risks and we're paying the price without able bodied players.

Youre right choz. Let's go grab a few more top 150 question marks. Than maybe send them to Rise. It's worked out so well. Or better yet, let's get another guy from the other side of the country who doesn't have the balls to play at St Johns and misses his daddy

Is there any interest in Leroy Fludd?

Without ever having seen him, he seems like one of those players who didn't improve after 9th or 10th grade, so I say no. But maybe someone who has seen him can give a better assessment.

It's actually the other way around.  Fludd has improved greatly and is imo one of the best kids in the city.  We could use a kid like Truck because he has a non stop motor.  Unfortunately i don't believe we are looking at him as of now.

Actually, it did work out pretty well.  Out of that whole class, only 2 aren't here.  I'm not counting Lindsey, who quit.  It's very possible that Jakarr could be here next year.  I think we will recruit local kids when they are worth it.  It was a tall task to fill 12 ships.  I personally am glad Lavin didn't Just take any local kid to fill a roster spot.  We grabbed a local named Maurice Harkless who very well might be the most talented SF in the Big East.  We'll grab more locals in future classes as well.  Silly to judge based on one massive recruiting class that certainly had a few setbacks.

Mcnpa, you keep saying we only have half a roster. We have 2 legit stars and a good core. No need to take some many risks now

I would rather take my lumps this year and develop the kids by rapid fire than be stuck with a roster of kids that Norm would have recruited.

We can recruit nationally now, we will take the NY kids when they warrant a scholarship.

Actually, now is an even better time.  By taking risks, we can add more studs.  Dare to be great.

I said in August that he made a huge mistake by not taking enough size. He lost 3 players, 2 of them bigs, and now this season is over. It was a concern in August, and it was over in September. Lavin needs to bring in a point guard, and 3 bigs and a legit shooter.

We would be only slightly better pf everyone qualified.

If everyone qualified, we'd have one of the top freshmen centers in the country and an additional 6'8" forward up front.   I think we'd have been a bit better, not just slightly because 2 more depth-wise and much more on our frontline which is one of our main problems.

Agree with your post except not counting Lindsey. To me this is worse than the non-qualifiers because it was a mistake in judgment as to character and commitment and by character I don't mean he is a bad person just selfish and not having the ability to see things thru. I do realize that now a days with recruiting rules it is hard to get to know a kid very well. Just like Polee was a mistake (but these aren't very blameworthy mistakes just mistakes) because sometimes if it takes to much convincing to land a kid maybe he just wasn't a very good fit for your program to begin with.

I can't believe that two top 50 big men wouldn't have helped us beat Zona, Northeastern, Detroit and A&M. We probably lose to UK, Louisville and UConn no matter what, but we are not even competitive with these teams. We were destroyed last night, and Louisville didn't play all that well.

I believe in the new staff. I think they will have far more success than Norm Roberts did. But let's get real here. That says nothing. Norm was a complete nice person.

Lindsey not being here, most certainly counts, because we don't have a point guard. We didn't bring in enough players. It's pretty obvious.

Good points.  Sometimes you have to take chances on kids though, especially when you are replacing an entire roster. They tried, and it didn't work.  We weren't in a position last year to not recruit someone unless they weren't a perfect fit for the program.

Staff seems to be hard on Sina for '13, I hope it's not because they feel like Rysheed Jordan is out of pocket.  I was under the impression we were still very much involved with Jordan.
