Most of the recent recruiting threads are 2013 or later kids

Seems kinda strange with Coach Lavin's various quotes about bringing in either 5 or 6 players for 2012 that there would be so little info on those prospects.   We have Woods, still working Gathers and Sampson.  And there's some discussion of Obkepa.  But I'd expect, only Woods a certainty, that with 5 other rides to possibly be handed out, we'd be hearing at least 10-15 names on a pretty regular basis....

Agree cr, but oddly enough, even last season we rarely heard us involved with a large amount of kids.  We'd pop up with a kid, and then land him.  We certainly lost our share, but Lavin certainly does snipe with his targets and doesn't cast a wide net.  I too find it odd sometimes.  The only thing we can do is wait and see what happens.  I certainly wouldn't mind getting a few verbals relatively soon.

Obkepa, Garhers and Sampson would acceptable for big men. Not ideal, but acceptable. Lavin needs a point guard and a shooter as well.

Lav is involved with 8 recruits for 2012 for 5 spots. Wood is one but needs to get his core grades. Chris's teammate is on Lav's list along with a couple of Juco's with Sanchez being a high priority and to build a relationship with another Dominican in the Bronx that SJ is very high on.
Our current team's problem is depth and experience, not the talent Lav brought in. Adding any of the four above will be incredible, not just acceptable.

Agre, would be incredible.  Gathers is a top 35 recruit, Jakarr top 50. Sanchez a JC AA.  Obekpa is just outside the top hundred, but I think that is a bit ridiculous considering his athletic ability and shotblocking.  Obekpa can offer at least as much as Angelo Chol out of Zona, but is further down the ranking by far.  He'd be a steal.  Landing those guys would be much better than acceptable IMO, when added to our current roster.  I can only hope we get to see the Dukies bring their Big guys in to MSG to battle a frontline of Harkless, pointer, Gift and possibly guys like Gathers, Sampson, Obekpa, Sanchez or any combination.

Interesting...

I'd consider a D-1 transfer (at this point) to be a 2013 recruit.    I really think when Steve says 5 for next year he means five eligible to PLAY next  year....

Lavin loves Carson but he was a partial qualifier this year and is taking classes at ASU now.
