I wasn't one of the ones who vocalized my distaste for the way Baldi was spreading rumors, but I certainly thought it in my head.  However, I will not apologize.  If the only rumor mentioned was that of Lavin being out for the season, it would have been understandable, believable, and founded.  It was the broad spectrum rumor about him not returning AT ALL and leaving to return to the west coast (i believe the reasoning was his health and his wifey being unhappy), and even moreso, the lack of factual evidence supporting this rumor.  It was thrown out there as a blanket statement and it took some prying to find out it was from "a dean."  It also didn't help that it was coming from an Iona fan.  Maybe this is some revisionist history, but that's just how I remember it and I'm far too lazy to go back and check.  I think my point (if I have a point) is that getting the less outrageous of two "rumors" correct, does not a soothsayer, nor an insider make.  It also does not excuse someone from "reckless journalism."

You should stop focusing on me and hope the other rumor isn't true. Cause it can still happen. But what do I know

I guess from dating back to our BEB days I have developed selective reading when it comes to Bluto. Somehow I missed the never coming back rumor. I do remember him claiming Lavin could miss the season. For what it is worth, I had heard that Lavin might miss the season awhile back, but have not heard anything about him never coming back.

Call me crazy, but I usually find Baldi's posts entertaining and even engaging at times.  On these boards, Baldi is not a journalist.  The posts made to these boards should not be held to the journalistic standards of a newspaper column or other news reporting source.  These boards represent a bunch of guys (and maybe girls?) posting and sharing their thoughts and opinions on a team and school we all love (although Baldi loves Iona more, but so what??).  As we all know, if you post an opinion that is not grounded in facts or solid reasoning, you will most likely get called out on your post.  As long as the commentary is limited to attacking the post and not the person, I say, have at it, and there will never be a need to apologize.

Having received major cancer surgery myself several years ago, I can emphasize with Coach Lavin's decision to take as much time away from his daily grind as he sees fit, and if that means missing the rest of the season, so be it.  Post-op recovery is both mentally and physically challenging, and there are no "set" timeframes for full recovery.  IMHO, Lavin recruiting full time for SJU while Dunlap minds the shop this season is still way better than having Norm Roberts in charge.

DFF6 hit it on the head--pyhsical and mental challenges.  i had the same surgery performed by the same doctor as coach.  Mine also needed additional time--spent 3 days in hospital after it and needed a blood transfusion due to loss during surgery.  they say a picture says a 1,000 words.  That picture of coach above says it all.  there is no way he should have been back so soon in that squatting position.  For all we know he could have done damage to the healing process by that stress on his surgical area.  I did some stupid things and needed  surgery 10 months later.  The coach is definitely a more active person than me.  his resting is the best to do now.  he is cancer free and that is what matters most in the recovery

Maybe coach should just rest up totally until he is well because this might help him return to bench coaching sooner. Recruiting is seemingly not going to go well until recruits see him back coaching as 4 recent decommits attest.

Exactly.  What's the point in coming back and then sitting out more.  Rest up and get it right once and for all so there isnt a late February game he misses after coaching a bunch and then the whole controversy re-appears.

I think he gets back also. My uneducated guess Feb 14 vs Seton Hall

I don't feel like digging through posts, but someone once mentioned February about a month ago.  It could've been on this board or Redmen (things run together sometimes), but the poster sounded like they wasn't guessing.

I think this is basically what has been out there recently but finally made it into the papers.

According to the article in the LA Times, "Lavin had hoped he would be ready to return to the team for the start of Big East Conference play late last month. Then he took aim at Jan. 15, when classes at St. John's are set to resume. But now he's saying only that his status will be revisited at some point later this season." A decision has yet to be made, so nothing to apologize for.

I have never asked for nor deserve apologies. Its a message board, not reality. I heard something from someone alot closer to the program than many of us and decided to post it. WASJU posted what he heard as well, which agreed with mine, and some posters got on him as well. Alot of Johnnyjunglers dislike me and my posts which is understandable. They think my posts are nonsense(another point in which I cant argue), but sometimes "even the blind squirrell finds a nut". Unfortunately, this is looking like 1 of those times

I'll bet up to $250 bucks total to anyone that by the end of the ncaa tourney we have commitments from 2 players who are consensus top 100 players for the next 2 years.

I will wager $250 that Baldi will not take the other side of this bet.

100% this will happen.

Side note completely off topic. I wish St. John's would have snatched up Brian Bernardi when he was on the board. Kid left playing the Gauchos this summer to play with his high school team who came to team camp. He stuck around for another week of camp and roomed with his childhood friend who wouldn't have come by himself but Brian wanted to help him get the extra work in. Ridiculously loyal, tireless worker, strong student, and oh yea lights out shooter.
