Jamal: Commits to another coachin staff. Stays tru to a&m even when coaches leave. Then the new coachin staff recruits over him: J-Mychal Reese.

So what happens if our staff recruits over him?

Then STJ has an even better PG.

But seriously, they can't in the 2012 class so he has 20 games next year to prove he deserves to remain the starter.  I'd like those odds better too, especially if the boss who hired me left before my first day.

They gave J-Mychal's dad an assistant position.  The writing is on the wall at A&M.

Then add to my previous post . . . and hired the father of the guy in the office next door to an upper management human resources position.

Given our current roster, the available market of 2012 class PG's relative to Branch, and most significantly, the amount of practice and bonding time Branch will have as a result of practicing with the team starting this upcoming semester, IMO I think Branch is virtually a lock for significant playing time come spring semester, 2013 even if Greene evolves this year into a solid BE PG, and one has to think this reasoning was a factor in Branch's decision to come here.  Whatever the case, it's great for us!

Both Greene and Branch will get 20+ mpg.  They will also share the floor quite a bit.  Stith with be squeezed out here.  Harrison will need to be spelled 10-12 minutes...and whoever starts out of Greene or Branch will be spelled about 15 mpg.  That leaves 25-27 mpg from just the guard spots, and I'm sure Lav will run his share of three-guard sets to force the pace.

John Reese enters his first season an assistant on coach Billy Kennedy's Texas A&M basketball staff.

Reese joins the Aggies after 15 years at Bryan (Texas) High School, the last 10 as head coach. In his decade at the helm, he led the Vikings to 246 wins, seven district championships and nine playoff appearances.

“I am excited to add John to our staff,” Kennedy said. “His success as a coach and his relationships with high school coaches in Texas and the AAU programs will be a great asset to our program.”

In 2011, Reese led the Vikings to a 20-13 record and spot in the area round of the state playoffs. He began his career at the school as an assistant before being named head coach in May 2001.

Reese, who has worked for the Bryan Independent School District for the last 18 years, graduated from Angelo State University with a degree in kinesiology and speech communications. He is a long-time member of the Texas High School Coaching Association and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Reese and his wife, Celeste, have two sons, Jerron and J-Mychal.

Nurideen Lindsey 9 29.6 11.8 4.9 2.9 1.6 0.0 4.1 .462 .567 .000
Jamal Branch 11 18.6 4.2 2.2 2.5 0.5 0.3 1.9 .417 .429 .333

I am a little confused. Now first of all I hope Branch turns out to be the second coming of Mark Jackson or at the very least Mike Moses. With that being said Nuri's stats blow away Branch's in every category except three point shooting. Nuri was even a better foul shooter. Now how is Nuri a pariah for transfering in mid season but Branch is being viewed as a great get
by us? I don't see how  Ican get all worked up over someone who it seems is worse than the guy everyone trashed going out the door.

Branch came into a top 25 program, and rode the pine. It's never a good a sign when a kid transfers. That said, it doesn't always reflect on the kid. Sometimes it's the coach. Sometimes it's the program. Sometimes it's about playing time. We do know that this kid was recruited by a coach who left this past spring.

We are not exactly sure why Lindsey left. We know that he did, and that he did it after 9 games. Are we a better team without a legitimately talented player? Of course not. But why is Lindsey unable to find a place to play now? Why has he already quit two commitments? Some things are unclear, but not everything.

I saw 9 games from Nuri, and in half of them he looked like our best player, and in the other half he was a poor shooting turnover machine; so I think its damn hard to say whether we're a better team with or without him.

If he stayed maybe we would've seen more of the same in terms of charges and travels.  But then again I think there's just as good a chance that he could've gotten his sea legs so to speak after getting accustomed to D1 defenses, and started to pull up, and maybe draw the double team and kick.

Maybe that's wishful thinking.  But there was undoubtedly good and bad with Nuri, it's a disservice to ignore either.

Lindsey was a one-trick pony.  His defense was TERRIBLE.  You can't win with that weak of a defender.  Anyone that thinks he defense was even acceptable is fooled by him guessing and jumping passing lanes instead of dropping his ass and moving his damn feet.  He was a terrible FT shooter, he was a terrible three-pt shooter, he had 16 turnovers his last three games (averaging over 4 a game on the season), he got his shot blocked more that anyone I ever saw, and he doesn't have the backbone you want.

This kid was made to be coming off the bench to add scoring pop...8th or 9th off the pine.  We went 3-0 after he left...we would have won at least A&M and Detriot if he left earlier.  Case closed on this kid.

This kid was "about to break Wilt Chamberlain's scoring record" in Philly. I wonder how many games Wilt needed before he was ready for the likes of Detroit?

I think you need to take into account that Branch is a PG. Lindsey was an off guard who was playing the point and din't want to get his teammates involved. I fully expect Branch to be a much better fit. Throw the stats away, they don't tell anything about the story of these two guards.

Branch is a true freshman.  Nuri is 4 years out of high school.  Compare Nuri in 2011-12 to Jamal in 2014-15....

In all fairness to Lindsey I think he was a solid defender when motivated. I also think he was a pretty solid rebounder for a guard. He's a bit of a stallion in a sense with less structure and him dominating the ball he could be a very good player. When he had to think of where am I supposed to screen, pass, cut, well then he made mistakes.

I think he could have been really good if he would have stuck it out and bought into what the coaches, who Branch praises as amazing teachers of the game, were telling him. Coaches and teammates were tired of him and ties were cut before the well was poisoned.

I object.  Speculation, conjecture and unprovable.

I'll now make a similiarly ridiculous statement:

I would have married Jessica Biel and lived happily ever after if my wife had left earlier.
