He's a name. He was brought in to be a pipeline to NYC recruits. Where are they?

I actually think Tony Chiles is the guy we brought in for NYC recruiting.

Mo is actually considered a good coach, right? He's here for more than recruiting. Of course a Gauchos pipeline would be good, but how good are they these days? If they aren't, then that is going to be more of a long-term thing...

Besides, New York City doesn't produce big men like other cities do. I really don't give a crap where our players come from, as long as they are good.

We've learned that NYC is highly overrated in terms of quality. They may have more players than other cities, but our big names turn out to be Sebastian Telfair, Lance Stephenson and JayVaughn Pinkston. Busts. All of them. With the press clippings they received, you'd think they were Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant. BTW, when some homer tells you that NY has better talent than Chicago and Philadelphia, you respond with that's where Wade and Bryant are from.

There are some pretty good point guards from Jersey and NY playing around the country even at the mid major level that are better than what we have now and coming in.

No love for Branch, Baldi?

Branch was a backup on an underachieving team, we'll have to wait and see what he's got. Staff screwed up not bringing in a pg to lead as is needed with a big roster turnover. Missed on guys like Mack, Hinds etc

Dead on. They were convinced that Lindsey would be the goods. In November, I asked the board if he'd be Hatten, Hardy or Scott.
Scott would push him around like a rag doll.

A freshman playing for a coach he didn't sign up for sees there is an issue and leaves after 1st semester.  Turg probably promised Branch more and Kennedy in an effort to win goes with the Sr. who regardless would be more ready than Branch.

You are right about these three names, although Pinkston has only played 18 games.

Do you think that UConn had won the NCAA Tournament last season without Kemba Walker? NO. Was Walker overrated? NO.
Do you think that we had made the great season last year without Dwight Hardy? NO. Was Hardy overrated? NO.
Is Mo Harkless overrated? NO.

And no, I am not a bandwagoner. Yet that is the very definition of a St.John's fan. The 100-200 fans that show up for games don't fall into that group, (myself included).

So sorry to have hurt your feeling. You might want to wear ear plugs on February 4th. New York's team is going to molest the f out of us. We are, St.John's. We are not New York's team.

You are not a band wagoner? I'm befuddled by your dogma! You stated in no uncertain terms that "yet, that is the very definition of a St. John's fan" EXCEPT you??? You are one of the "special fans" that pay big bucks to attend MSG games that are part of a secret "love Fest" for the team? Oh, wait, you are famous for posting in game threads "during the games" ... Thanks for keeping us abreast of each play from the Garden! My IPhone has poor transmission from MSG or I would do the same! Then again, it is quite hard to follow the play and text simultaneously as skillfully as you do!

Why, it is super-fans such as yourself that resent the play of this team made up of freshmen, that come back for more mediocre basketball, yet remind us that Syracuse is NY's team, that we, like you, should come to MSG to watch 'Cuse "molest the f out of us"', and that We are St. John's and accordingly, deserve to be molested and we all should come to the Garden like you (who seems to follow the games on TV from all the game threads I have reviewed) and enjoy another molestation because YOU are the real fan and you speak the "truth" and give us that dose of reality we lack. Ummh.....sounds a lot like another former Real Fan poster here. Oh, wait, he no longer posts here but sends you his manuscripts to keep hope alive here!

Reality is "real fans" like you need not apply to the Red and White Club. You need not damage your fragile ego by attending any more games. I truly fear for your mental well being and recommend staying as far away from this basketball program as possible. Spend the money you claim to be spending on tickets on your kids, your wife, your  cummara, and recover as best you can and find a "real" college team to root for like Iona. At least they get 4,000 fans to the hotbed of college basketball New Rochelle, and are smart enough not to have dreams of a national championship knowing they are two players away from returning to mediocrity next year.  That does not stop them from attending powerhouse games against nationally ranked MAAC teams unlike lowly St. John's that have to play at that over-hyped basketball Mecca called MSG against such mediocre programs such as Duke, Syracuse, georgetown, Uconn, UCLA! Lville, Villanova, etc.!  How dare St. John' s put 5 freshmen on the court and expect us to root for them! How dare they put 5 freshmen on the floor against 12 nationally ranked teams this season! How dare coach Lavin get cancer and have surgery? How dare Syracuse bring 10,000 fans to the Garden!
What the f does Syracuse think they are!!!! #1 in New York? #1 in ALL of college basketball? Have we at SJ no shame to even show up?? Wait! I forgot! YOU and the real true to the core SJ fans will be there to watch Syracuse "molest the f" out of our young teens!!
Now I know where your true dark desires come from!
Get well soon! I will pray for your salvation.
As I asked previously, do you enjoy being self-destructive?

Hardy was nothing coming out of HS.
It's clear that Moe was best NYC player last year and we got him.

Next year it seems like its Calhoun.  Personally I'm not his biggest fan.

Malik Boothe is Allan Iverson, in comparison to Dash Harris.

Malik Boothe has averaged under 13 minutes in his SJ career. He is at least 4 inches shorter and cannot pass the ball and make an assist unless it is to an opposing player. Where are the comparisons???

Kobe Bryant - Philadelphia
Dwayne Wade - Chicago
Kemba Walker - NY

Kemba was good, but my point is that NY high school talent is overrated. We have produced several very good players. Clearly, Kemba is one of them.
However, on the whole, the NY media blows every top recruit up like they are Dwayne Wade, and every year it is out of control.

Kemba Walker was not one of these out of this world recruits. He worked hard, and he improved. Especially from his junior season to his Senior season.
Of course we want guys like Hardy. He was tremendous, but this isn't the kind of recruit I'm talking about. Hardy was not in the ESPN top 100. Not even close.

Correct! It was a "Malik" slip. Both were too short, in height and talent, to play in the Big East but Norm Roberts had a soft spot for players that reminded him of himself when he played at Queens College. He made sure to recruit that type of short-armed, short-framed type to fit into his 35 seconds of passing the ball around until the clock ran out. Malik Stith continues that tradition to this day:)
